McAllister was born in Delaware on 19 Feb. 1827 and died on 21 Jan. 1910. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1844. He migrated to Utah in 1851, took several wives, and had numerous children. He served on two missions for his church, lived for a time in St. George, Utah, and held numerous positions of responsibility.

John Daniel Thompson McAllister was born 19 February 1827 in Lewis, Delaware. His parents were J.F. McAllister and Eliza Thompson. He married Ellen Handley in 1847. They had two sons, Moroni and John, before traveling from Kanesville, Iowa to Salt Lake City in 1851. Consists of daily journal entries detailing their journey from 1 July 1851 to 1 October 1851.
