Working with Attachment Trauma

The Adult Attachment Projective Picture System (AAP) has served as a prominent assessment tool for adults and adolescents internationally for over 20 years. This book introduces the AAP and illustrates the powerful potential for implementing the AAP in clinical practice for assessment, client conceptualization, treatment planning, analysis, and as a therapeutic guide. Chapters discuss the full scope of incomplete pathological mourning for attachment trauma, including for the first time in the field Failure to Mourn and Preoccupation with Personal Suffering. Seasoned clinical researchers and psychotherapists provide a snapshot of their clients' unique attachment characteristics and defensive exclusion strategies as assessed by the AAP, and discuss how to use this information in treatment, as well as how to present the AAP results to their clients. This book introduces readers to how the AAP can be used with adolescents, adults, and couples, and in custody evaluation and foster care.

Attachment Assessment in treatments, prevention and intervention programs

Attachment theory, assessment and research offers a broad, far-reaching view of human functioning, and it can enrich a psychologist's understanding of subjects and their relational adjustment, both in clinical and non-clinical settings. Ongoing research in attachment has led to a number of individual treatments and prevention and intervention programs. The assessment of an individual's attachment organization, can play a crucial role in explaining and previewing the unfolding treatment, the relational adjustments or concerns, and the psychological well-being. We hope to receive empirical papers that give evidence for the usefulness of attachment assessment in both clinical (e.g., patients wi...

The Role of Play in Child Assessment and Intervention

The Role of Play in Child Assessment and Intervention

Play is a ubiquitous and universal aspect of early childhood. Although it may take different forms throughout development and across cultures, decades of research have found play to be related to important, positive outcomes. Play provides children with valuable cognitive, emotional, and interpersonal learning opportunities. It can act as a mode of communication for young children and allows them to practice ways of managing complex interpersonal interactions. Specific aspects of play, such as children’s creativity in pretend play, have been associated with resilience and coping. The significance of play in childhood has led to its frequent use in the assessment of child development and in the implementation of child and parent-child psychological and educational interventions. Historically, however, the validity and efficacy of these interventions have not been rigorously evaluated. Further, few assessment and intervention models have included parents, teachers, and other key caregivers, but have focused only on the child. This Research Topic will bring together the most current literature on the use of play in child assessment and intervention.

Camus's the Plague

Camus's the Plague

"Camus's classic narrative, La Peste (The Plague), is a timely philosophical read in an era when a deadly pandemic rages worldwide. An allegory rich with suggestion, it rewards an imaginative reader with innumerable meanings as our own lived experiences mirror the novel. We witness protesters who argue for individual freedom and the autonomy to defy government-imposed regulations. They openly clash with followers of science who recommend shared actions of self-sacrifice to mitigate the spread of infection. Choosing either to act in one's own interest or to sacrifice for the good of all has become a haunting theme of American life in which the "richest nation on earth" experienced the highest...

Veleno
