Beyond Multiculturalism
While the anthropological field initially shied away from the debate on multiculturalism, it has been widely discussed within the fields of political theory, social policy, cultural studies and law. Beyond Multiculturalism is the first volume of its kind to offer a comparative, worldwide view of multiculturalism, considering both traditional multicultural/multiethnic societies and those where cultural pluralism is relatively new. Its varied case studies focus on the intersections and relationships between cultural groups in everyday life using employment, identity, consumption, language, legislation and policy making to show the unique contribution anthropologists can bring to multiculturalism studies. Pilgrimage places anthropological works on a privileged platform for religious studies. The origin of built environment sets apart a platform for worship. It contains the dichotomy of life and death, striving towards the spirit of a dead that may or may not be religious. It is a soul searching process, a coming to terms with hopes and disillusions. Human situations in the flow of globalised urban areas draw together primal human search and economic considerations. Die Globalisierung hat die Welt grundlegend verändert. Die radikalen Folgen dieser Revolution betreffen nicht nur abstrakte Prozesse in Wirtschaft und Politik, sondern sind konkret in unserem Alltag erlebbar. Das Lexikon der Globalisierung bereitet in mehr als 140 Einträgen die Ergebnisse der kultur- und sozialwissenschaftlichen und insbesondere der anthropologischen Globalisierungsforschung in einer verständlichen und anschaulichen Sprache nicht nur für eine wissenschaftliche Leserschaft, sondern auch für eine breite Öffentlichkeit auf. Multikulturalismus – ztracené paradigma?
Přestože multikulturalismus jako koncept v rámci humanitních studií představuje už poněkud vyčerpané téma, chceme vymezit prostor, který v rámci multikulturního přístupu v české společnosti zůstává dosud nenaplněn. Naším cílem je upozornit na možnosti znovu-promyšlení multikulturní ideologie na bázi kritického přístupu k ní a na možnosti její aplikace do sfér výchovy a vzdělávání. Chceme ukázat, jak přehnaná akcentace etnické diferenciace znehodnocuje cíle multikulturalismu založené na spravedlivém přístupu i napříč jinými typy odlišností. Pokud nevytyčíme možnosti, jak mluvit o ideách multikulturalismu bez zúžení této problematiky na etnickou otázku, nemáme naději na přijetí multikulturní výchovy jako nezbytné součásti školního kurikula, jako platformy pro nové společenské paradigma.
