Allows the reader to deepen their understanding of various technologies for both fixed power supply installations of railway systems and for railway rolling stock This book explores the electric railway systems that play a crucial role in the mitigation of congestion and pollution caused by road traffic. It is divided into two parts: the first covering fixed power supply systems, and the second concerning the systems for railway rolling stock. In particular, after a historical introduction to the framework of technological solutions in current use, the authors investigate electrification systems for the power supply of rail vehicles, trams, and subways. Electrical Railway Transportation Syst...
Covers the fundamental concepts and advanced modelling techniques of Doubly Fed Induction Generators accompanied by analyses and simulation results Filled with illustrations, problems, models, analyses, case studies, selected simulation and experimental results, Advanced Control of Doubly Fed Induction Generator for Wind Power Systems provides the basic concepts for modelling and controlling of Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) wind power systems and their power converters. It explores both the challenges and concerns of DFIG under a non-ideal grid and introduces the control strategies and effective operations performance options of DFIG under a non-ideal grid. Other topics of this book ...
This book reports on a large research project on community regeneration, which integrated the spatial, social, economic and organizational factors with the dimensions of sustainability, resilience and participation. Upon providing a detailed review on concepts of community and urban regeneration, it analyses a set of successful case studies from 30 European cities, which were selected by the authors from different rankings and awards. Fifty-seven key performance indicators and the results of self-assessment questionnaires are here introduced to allow a comparative study of best practices and eventually to outline 20 guidelines and 100 strategic actions for future community regeneration projects. All in all, this book offers extensive information and a source of inspiration for urban planners, economists, sociologists, public administrators, stakeholders and all those involved in the development and management of sustainable cities.
This book contains the proceedings of the 14th KES International Conference on Sustainability and Energy in Buildings 2021 (SEB2022) held in Split, Croatia, during September 14–16, 2022, organized by KES International. SEB22 invited contributions on a range of topics related to sustainable buildings and explored innovative themes regarding sustainable energy systems. The conference formed an exciting chance to present, interact and learn about the latest research and practical developments on the subject. The conference attracted submissions from around the world. Submissions for the full-paper track were subjected to a blind peer-reviewed process. Only the best of these were selected for presentation at the conference and publication in these proceedings. It is intended that this book provides a useful and informative snapshot of recent research developments in the important and vibrant area of sustainability in energy and buildings.
This book collects a set of reflections concerning the planning of contemporary cities by urban design, with a special emphasis on some needs and shortcomings emerged during the coronavirus pandemic. With the ultimate goal of designing accessible, inclusive and welcoming green cities, it discusses the urgent need for new systems of public spaces across the city, together with alternative solutions for individual mobility (especially slow mobility) and social interaction. It is intended for a broad readership, including designers, engineers, architects, social scientists, stakeholders, and public administrators, who deal with various aspects of the realization of the City 4.0.
Modeling and Control of Modern Electrical Energy Systems A step-by-step approach to the modeling, analysis, and control of modern electronically controlled energy systems In Modeling and Control of Modern Electrical Energy Systems, distinguished researcher Dr. Masoud Karimi-Ghartemani delivers a comprehensive discussion of distributed and renewable energy resource integration from a control system perspective. The book explores various practical aspects of these systems, including the power extraction control of renewable resources and size selection of short-term storage components. The interactions of distributed energy resources (DERs) with the rest of the electric power system are presen...
Modular Multilevel Converters Expert discussions of cutting-edge methods used in MMC control, protection, and fault detection In Modular Multilevel Converters: Control, Fault Detection, and Protection, a team of distinguished researchers delivers a comprehensive discussion of fault detection, protection, and tolerant control of modular multilevel converters (MMCs) under internal and external faults. Beginning with a description of the configuration of MMCs, their operation principles, modulation schemes, mathematical models, and component design, the authors go on to explore output control, fault detection, capacitor monitoring, and other topics of central importance in the field. The book o...
