European Company Law

  • Categories: Law

The book provides students of European company law courses, scholars and practitioners with an overview. Although company law remains mainly regulated at the level of national laws, it has become important to obtain a systematic view of the main directives in the field of company law, the EU Court of Justice’s jurisprudence, the European Model Company Act and the state of implementation of these directives in the member states of the Union. The book therefore contains, in addition to the illustration of the law laid down by EU legislative bodies and the related soft laws, detailed references to the most important domestic legislations and case laws, in order to make them known and usable as much as possible. Moreover, the book allows identifying the most relevant current legislative trends and the main historical reasons for divergences.

Stochastics

This textbook, now in its second revised and extended edition, presents the fundamental ideas and results of both probability theory and statistics. It comprises the material of a one-year course, which is addressed to students of mathematics and to scientists with an interest in the mathematical side of stochastics. The stochastic concepts, models and methods are motivated by examples and then developed and analysed systematically. Some measure theory is included, but this is done at an elementary level that is in accordance with the introductory character of the book. A large number of problems, now in part with solutions, offer applications and supplements to the text.

Qualitative Interviews

Algorithms

Algorithms play a central role both in the theory and in the practice of computing. The goal of the authors was to write a textbook that would not trivialize the subject but would still be readable by most students on their own. The book contains over 120 exercises. Some of them are drills; others make important points about the material covered in the text or introduce new algorithms not covered there. The book also provides programming projects. From the Table of Contents: Chapter 1: Basic knowledge of Mathematics, Relations, Recurrence relation and Solution techniques, Function and Growth of functions. Chapter 2: Different Sorting Techniques and their analysis. Chapter 3: Greedy approach,...

Ontology of Theistic Beliefs

This volume aims to apply ontological theories and arguments to theistic beliefs and theistic world views. After an introduction that traces out the complexity of the field by categorizing the multifaceted definitions of ontology and (theistic) believing, thirteen articles discuss specific aspects of the two terms as well as their interaction. With contributions by Chris Daly, Gabriele De Anna, Michał Głowala, Christian Kanzian, Daniel Linford, Jason Megill, Uwe Meixner, Elisa Paganini, Eleonore Stump, Mirosław Szatkowski, William F. Vallicella and Peter van Inwagen.

Knowledge Engineering for Modern Information Systems

Knowledge Engineering (KE) is a field within artificial intelligence that develops knowledgebased systems. KE is the process of imitating how a human expert in a specific domain would act and take decisions. It contains large amounts of knowledge, like metadata and information about a data object that describes characteristics such as content, quality, and format, structure and processes. Such systems are computer programs that are the basis of how a decision is made or a conclusion is reached. It is having all the rules and reasoning mechanisms to provide solutions to real-world problems. This book presents an extensive collection of the recent findings and innovative research in the inform...

Expanding the Lexicon

Expanding the Lexicon

The creation of new lexical units and patterns has been studied in different research frameworks, focusing on either system-internal or system-external aspects, from which no comprehensive view has emerged. The volume aims to fill this gap by studying dynamic processes in the lexicon – understood in a wide sense as not being necessarily limited to the word level – by bringing together approaches directed to morphological productivity as well as approaches analyzing general types of lexical innovation and the role of discourse-related factors. The papers deal with ongoing changes as well as with historical processes of change in different languages and reflect on patterns and specific subtypes of lexical innovation as well as on their external conditions and the speakers’ motivations for innovating. Moreover, the diffusion and conventionalization of innovations will be addressed. In this way, the volume contributes to understanding the complex interplay of structural, cognitive and functional factors in the lexicon as a highly dynamic domain.
