Affidavit, dated November 1537 in Lima, in which Francisco Pizarro accuses Diego de Almagro of attempting to take control of the cities of Cuzco and Lima from Pizarro. Almagro entered Cuzco by force and arrested the lieutenant in command, as well as the acting governor, Hernando Pizarro. He then proceeded to establish himself in a temporary settlement in Chincha outside of Lima, and swore to take that city as well. Pizarro states that he has no wish to fight Almagro and that he has agreed to allow Fray Francisco de Mendoza y Bobadilla to act as mediator in the dispute between the two conquerors. The affidavit also includes Bobadilla's decision to restore Cuzco to Pizarro and his order to Almagro to retire to La Nasca until the boundaries of the two governorships can be clearly established. The document was signed with Pizarro's rubric rather than his name, since he did not know how to write.
