(Re)telling Old Stories

This book anchors the study of live performance in discussions about how societies think themselves through representation. It hones in on two productions by Peter Brook and Ariane Mnouchkine in order to examine shared methodological concerns in the transfer of ancient mythological narratives to the contemporary stage.

Let's Get Back To The TARDIS is part biographical, part fiction. Factual fiction! Starting in 1987, this story is about the goings on of a character called Jamie. Jamie is a young Doctor Who fan, who is determined to make a fan film based on the 1965 Dr.Who and the Daleks movie (which starred Peter Cushing). He enlists his cousin Simon (a non-Doctor Who fan) to help him. This book details their various attempts and how the idea goes in directions that even they didn't expect it to go. Despite being set in the late 1980s, the book becomes just like a TARDIS as time switches back and forth through various points in Jamie's life. At its very heart, this book is the tale of young forgotten innocence viewed through the warm glow of nostalgia and the changes that occur as one gets older.

The Vinyl Detective plunges into the world of electronic dance music in his seventh adventure. Expect laughs, LPs, cats and the return of fan favourites, Nevada, Tinkler, Stinky Stanmer and more. The Vinyl Detective enters the fraught and frenzied realm of electronic dance music. Lambert Ramkin aka Imperium Dart, techno trickster and ambient music wizard of the 1990s, has gone walkabout, disappearing from his rather palatial home in Kent. This isn't the first time he's pulled a vanishing act, but he's never been gone so long before and his wife — wives, actually; it's complicated — are worried and hire the Vinyl Detective to find the old rascal. They theorise that wherever the missing man is, he won't be able to resist turning up at a record fair somewhere in search of 12-inch white label acid house singles, which he collects compulsively. And no one knows the world of record fairs better than the Vinyl Detective. They're not wrong... But once our hero finds the wandering Lamb the trouble really begins — including terrifying mind-fucks with a side order of, if things break the wrong way, mass murder.
