Slow Dance in a Winter Garden
Following Nathaniel Hawthorne’s footsteps in Rome, a disillusioned middle-aged writer seeks meaning in things of little value while mistaking the needs of the soul as trivial, and of the heart as unreliable. Inspired in part by Hawthorne’s The Marble Faun, this tale is also a bit of a travelogue, as significant events often take place in sites of historical mystery. Though somewhat dark and serious, Slow Dance in a Winter Garden is a story of contemporary people who find themselves – like Nathaniel – torn between the persons they had hoped to be and those they have actually become.

UW Archives holds up to three copies of each volume of the yearbook from its initial publication in 1884 to its final publication in 2014 (129 volumes). The publication of the yearbook did not become annual until 1887, as such there are no yearbooks for 1885 or 1886. The only other interruption in yearbooks was for the years 1973 and 1974. There are still yearbooks from these years, but they were published by the Wisconsin Alumni Association rather than the student body, as such they are spare, consisting mostly of portraits of students. UW Archives currently holds at least one copy of every published volume. The 1st copy of each volume is held onsite at UW Archives while the second and third copies, where they exist, are held offsite.

Dead Man Talking... and talking... and talking
PHILIP SORGEN is not really dead--it’s just that since he received his poetic license he has been dying to use it. Philip has been an actuarial trainee at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, a Sp4 in The U.S. Army reserve and then for thirtyfour rewarding years, a mathematcs teacher at Great Neck North High School . He plays the piano by ear,composes music (with a pencil) and has tennis elbow, which is a lot less severe than tennis balls. He is the husband of one, a father of two and a grandfather of three. This is the story of his life.
