[This book provides a] review of self-concept measures that can be used with individuals across the life span, from preschool through late adulthood. These measures were selected according to the prevalence of their use in research and practice, their psychometric soundness, the strength of their theoretical base, and their demonstrable utility in a variety of research and practice situations. For each measure there is a description of the instrument, the target population, the scale structure, administration and scoring procedures, normative data, and related psychometric research, as well as an evaluative summary and source information. Byrne also provides a comprehensive review of the literature related to 7 empirically testable models of self-concept. Finally, the author identifies the most important psychometric issues related to measuring self-concept, describes the limitations associated with the current state of self-concept measurement, and points to promising directions for future research and application.
Oral Wound Healing: Cell Biology and Clinical Management brings experts from around the world together to provide an authoritative reference on the processes, principles and clinical management of wound healing in the oral mucosa. Promoting a thorough understanding of current research on the topic, this new resource draws together thinking on the basic biological processes of wound healing in the oral environment, as well as providing more detailed information and discussion on processes such as inflammation, reepithelialization and angiogenesis. Beyond this, the book goes on to examine topics pertinent to the effective clinical management of oral wound healing, bringing together chapters on large dento-facial defects, dental implants, periodontal regeneration, and pulp healing. An essential synthesis of current research and clinical applications, Oral Wound Healing will be an indispensable resource for dental specialists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons as well as researchers in oral medicine and biology.
The concept of expressing acidity as the negative logarithm of the hydrogen ion concentration was defined and termed pH in the beginning of the 20th century. The general usefulness of the pH concept for life science was recognized and later gained importance to analytical research. Reports on results of pH measurements from living skin established the term acid mantle - the skin's own protective shield that maintains a naturally acid pH. It is invisible to the eye but crucial to the overall wellbeing of skin. Chronic alkalization can throw this acid mantle out of balance, leading to inflammation, dermatitis, and atopic skin diseases. It is therefore no surprise, that skin pH shifts have been...
This book constitutes the proceedings of two conferences: The 6th International Conference on ArtsIT, Interactivity and Game Creation (ArtsIT 2017) and the Second International Conference on Design, Learning and Innovation (DLI 2017). The event was hosted in Heraklion, Crete, Greece, in October 2017 and attracted 65 submissions from which 50 full papers were selected for publication in this book. The papers represent a forum for the dissemination of cutting-edge research results in the area of arts, design and technology, including open related topics like interactivity and game creation.
This book consists of a selection of papers that discuss the challenges in the increasingly complex world of education and various educational problems such as moral degradation, lack of literacy, pedagogical curriculum and innovation, educational technology. Moreover, the book provides papers that deal with educational innovation in the era of Society 5.0, with a view to discuss and resolve various social challenges, issues, and problems relating to educators, students, the dynamics of the education system, and social dynamics. The subject areas treated in this book are: Character Education in Society 5.0 Era, Multiliteracy Education in Society 5.0 Era, Early Childhood Education in Society 5.0 Era, Inclusive Education in Society 5.0 Era, Curriculum, Media and Educational Technology for Primary Education in Society 5.0 Era, Joyful and Meaningful Learning in Society 5.0 Era, and HOTS in Society 5.0 Era. This book will help educators, stakeholders, and also parents to cope with the challenges in education.
The Ombudsman investigated three cases in which local statutory supervision of midwives failed, all of which occurred at Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. The cases clearly illuminate a potential muddling of the supervisory and regulatory role of supervisors of midwives. The current arrangements do not always allow information about poor care to be escalated effectively into hospital clinical governance or the regulatory system. This means the current system operates in a way that risks failure to learn from mistakes, which cannot be in the interests of the safety of mothers and babies and must change. Working with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the Professional Standards Authori...
This book provides insights on innovative strategies to build resilient food systems in the wake of challenges posed by climate change. Providing food security to the growing population especially in developing countries without exacerbating the environment is a major challenge. Climate change is expected to reduce agricultural productivity, leading to a decline in overall food availability and significantly increasing the number of malnourished children in developing countries. Interventions for enhancing the adaptive capacity of farmers especially of small holders needs immediate impetus. The policy formulation and development programs must reorient in the wake of the new expectations and ...
The quadratic assignment problem (QAP) was introduced in 1957 by Koopmans and Beckmann to model a plant location problem. Since then the QAP has been object of numerous investigations by mathematicians, computers scientists, ope- tions researchers and practitioners. Nowadays the QAP is widely considered as a classical combinatorial optimization problem which is (still) attractive from many points of view. In our opinion there are at last three main reasons which make the QAP a popular problem in combinatorial optimization. First, the number of re- life problems which are mathematically modeled by QAPs has been continuously increasing and the variety of the fields they belong to is astonishin...
