This book presents selected peer-reviewed papers from the International Conference on Mechanical and Energy Technologies, which was held on October 28–29, 2021, at Galgotias College of Engineering and Technology, Greater Noida, India. The book reports on the latest developments in the field of mechanical and energy technology in contributions prepared by experts from academia and industry. The broad range of topics covered includes aerodynamics and fluid mechanics, artificial intelligence, nonmaterial and nonmanufacturing technologies, rapid manufacturing technologies and prototyping, remanufacturing, renewable energies technologies, metrology and computer-aided inspection, etc. Accordingly, the book offers a valuable resource for researchers in various fields, especially mechanical and industrial engineering, and energy technologies.
Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) have started a revolution in Deep Learning, and today GAN is one of the most researched topics in Artificial Intelligence. Generative Adversarial Networks for Image-to-Image Translation provides a comprehensive overview of the GAN (Generative Adversarial Network) concept starting from the original GAN network to various GAN-based systems such as Deep Convolutional GANs (DCGANs), Conditional GANs (cGANs), StackGAN, Wasserstein GANs (WGAN), cyclical GANs, and many more. The book also provides readers with detailed real-world applications and common projects built using the GAN system with respective Python code. A typical GAN system consists of two neural ...
Microelectromechanical system (MEMS) inertial sensors have become ubiquitous in modern society. Built into mobile telephones, gaming consoles, virtual reality headsets, we use such sensors on a daily basis. They also have applications in medical therapy devices, motion-capture filming, traffic monitoring systems, and drones. While providing accurate measurements over short time scales, this diminishes over longer periods. To date, this problem has been resolved by combining them with additional sensors and models. This adds both expense and size to the devices. This tutorial focuses on the signal processing aspects of position and orientation estimation using inertial sensors. It discusses different modelling choices and a selected number of important algorithms that engineers can use to select the best options for their designs. The algorithms include optimization-based smoothing and filtering as well as computationally cheaper extended Kalman filter and complementary filter implementations. Engineers, researchers, and students deploying MEMS inertial sensors will find that this tutorial is an essential monograph on how to optimize their designs.
Knowledge management (KM) is about managing the lifecycle of knowledge consisting of creating, storing, sharing and applying knowledge. Two main approaches towards KM are codification and personalization. The first focuses on capturing knowledge using technology and the latter on the process of socializing for sharing and creating knowledge. Social media are becoming very popular as individuals and also organizations learn how to use it. The primary applications of social media in a business context are marketing and recruitment. But there is also a huge potential for knowledge management in these organizations. For example, wikis can be used to collect organizational knowledge and social ne...
Working in a stressful environment not only increases the risk of physical illness or distress, but also increases the likelihood of workplace accidents. While legislation provides some guidelines for risk assessment of physical hazards, there remains limited guidance on the risks of psychosocial hazards, such as occupational stress. This book takes the risk management approach to stress evaluation in the workplace, offering practical guidelines for the audit, assessment and mitigation of workplace stressors. Based on research and case studies, this book provides a comprehensive source of theoretical and practical information for students and practitioners alike. It includes chapters on: * environmental stress factors * psychological stress factors * work-related accidents * job stress evaluation methods With its up-to-date approach to a fascinating area of study, this is key reading for all students of organizational psychology and those responsible for workplace safety.
Biology for Engineers” is a book specially written for the students of engineering streams of various discipline to make them understand and appreciate the link between biological principles and engineering technology. The book is organized into four chapters - Chapter 1 discusses the significance of molecules and elements of life; Chapter 2 discusses how the living cell and the biological system in this universe work on thermodynamics principles; Chapter 3 discusses the plasma membrane and its universality across the living system and Chapter 4 gives its reader the knowledge of membrane electrical potential that has been used for devising objects that will facilitate heart beat, hearing aid, bionic eye for visually impaired. Different examples of application of anatomical features in engineering technology and how certain anatomical features have been implemented in developing devices in the engineering technology are discussed in the book.
This well-organised book presents the basics of VLSI along with important algorithms used by CAD tool designers. It discusses general VLSI design styles, layout design rules, technology mapping in FPGAs and 3D-FPGAs. In addition, the text describes three important steps in high level synthesis of VLSI, namely, partitioning, scheduling, and data path allocation, besides logic synthesis which determines the gate level structure of circuits. Finally, the book gives a detailed account of physical synthesis, where steps such as floorplanning, placement, routing and compaction are explained with necessary algorithms. This book is intended as a text for the undergraduate and postgraduate students o...
