Cutting Room Management in Apparel Manufacturing

Cutting-Sewing-Finishing is the common terminology used for the overall process that takes place in any organisation manufacturing garments via the industrial way. The cutting room or cutting department is the place where all the pre-sewing activities like spreading, cutting, bundling, ticketing, fusing, and embroidery are conducted before the cut components are sent to the sewing department. In a garment factory, cutting department is pivotal from the point of view of controlling the material utilisation, considering the fact that material constitutes 60% of the manufacturing cost. Although the labour cost component in spreading and cutting is very less in comparison to sewing, the process ...

Performance Measurement in Apparel Manufacturing

Performance measurement is a process for collecting and reporting information regarding the performance of an individual, group or organisations. The fundamental purpose behind this measure is to improve performance. Key Performance Indicators, often abbreviated as KPIs, help an organisation define and measure progress towards organisational goals. These KPIs are quantifiable measurements, agreed to beforehand, that reflect the critical success factors of an organisation. By using KPIs, a company can establish baseline figures against a number of important areas. They can be considered like a health check on a company or a diagnosis as to where a company can improve its performance. Different KPIs are there for different fields of operations such as merchandising, quality, production planning, cutting room, human resources management and inventory management for enhancing both the operational and financial performances of a business. Each of these metrics have been explained in terms of their measurement formula, benchmarks wherever available, and elaborated with examples to ensure that they are correctly interpreted and applied.

How to Use Advanced Sewing Automations

Both quality and productivity improvement are the driving forces for accelerating the growth of factories. Factories specialise in manufacturing of specialised products such as polo shirts, bottoms and shirts, require specialised machineries with maximum level of mechanisation/automation, whereas companies involved in manufacturing of multi-product categories, which include fashion apparels, have to deal with small order quantities with frequent style changeover. Hence flexibility and set-up time minimisation are important criteria for equipment selection. In this series, Dr. Prabir Jana with the help of StitchWorld technical team, identifies seven critical operations for analysis.

Industrial Engineering in Apparel Manufacturing

While there is pressure (from buyers), inclination (within self to do better) and a heightened aspiration among apparel manufacturers to use Industrial Engineering (IE) like other more industrialized sectors, there is no specific book as such dealing with IE in relation to apparel manufacturing. The existing books that are already written on IE possess academic rigour and generic functions applicable across industries, thus making it difficult for the practitioners to refer and clear discrete doubts related to apparel manufacturing. Undoubtedly, work study is the centrepiece of Industrial Engineering; however apart from work study, industrial engineers in apparel industry are also supposed t...

In the telecom world, services have usually been conceived with a specific mindset. This mindset has defined the traditional characteristics of these services; services distinguished by their linkage with the access network, tight control over service use (e.g., authentication, billing), lack of deep personalization capabilities (mass services only) and reliance on standardization to achieve end-to-end interoperability between all the actors of the value chain (e.g., operators, platform manufacturers, device manufactures). This book offers insights into this complex but exciting world of telecommunications characterized by constant evolution, and approaches it from technology as well as business perspectives. The book is appropriately structured in three parts: (a) an overview of the state-of-the-art in fixed/mobile NGN and standardization activities; (b) an analysis of the competitive landscape between operators, device manufactures and OTT providers, emphasizing why network operators are challenged on their home turf; and (c) opportunities for business modeling and innovative telecom service offers.

Designing structures to withstand the effects of fire is challenging, and requires a series of complex design decisions. This third edition of Fire Safety Engineering Design of Structures provides practising fire safety engineers with the tools to design structures to withstand fires. This text details standard industry design decisions, and offers expert design advice, with relevant historical data. It includes extensive data on materials’ behaviour and modeling -- concrete, steel, composite steel-concrete, timber, masonry, and aluminium. While weighted to the fire sections of the Eurocodes, this book also includes historical data to allow older structures to be assessed. It extensively c...

PAAMS, the International Conference on Practical Applications of Agents and Multi-Agent Systems is an evolution of the International Workshop on Practical Applications of Agents and Multi-Agent Systems. PAAMS is an international yearly tribune to present, to discuss, and to disseminate the latest developments and the most important outcomes related to real-world applications. It provides a unique opportunity to bring multi-disciplinary experts, academics and practitioners together to exchange their experience in the development of Agents and Multi-Agent Systems. This volume presents the papers that have been accepted for the 2017 in the special sessions: Agent-Based Social Simulation, Modelling and Big-Data Analytics (ABM); Advances on Demand Response and Renewable Energy Sources in Agent Based Smart Grids (ADRESS); Agents and Mobile Devices (AM); Computer vision in Multi-Agent Robotics (RV); Persuasive Technologies (PT); Web and Social Media Mining (WASMM). The volume also includes the papers accepted for publication in the Doctoral Consortium (DCAI, DCAI-DECON, ISAMI, MIS4TEL, PAAMS, PACBB 2017 conferences).
