This English-language annual publication provides analysis and information on private international law developments world-wide. The Editors commission articles of enduring importance concerning the most significant trends in the field. The Yearbook also devotes attention to the important work and research carried out in the context of the Hague Conference, The Hague Academy, UNCITRAL and UNIDROIT. The authority of the editors and the lasting nature of the works included make the Yearbook an integral addition to the libraries of international law scholars and practitioners.

Nationality Law in the Western Hemisphere
In Nationality Law in the Western Hemisphere, Olivier Vonk provides the first comprehensive overview in English of the grounds for acquisition and loss of citizenship in the thirty-five independent countries in the Americas and the Caribbean. Employing a typology developed by the European Union Democracy Observatory on Citizenship, he convincingly shows that different nationality laws can be compared by using a systematic analytical grid. The individual country chapters additionally pay due regard to issues such as dual citizenship and statelessness, and include thorough historical observations as well as extensive bibliographical references for each state. Nationality Law in the Western Hemisphere allows academics, practitioners, governments and international organizations to assess nationality legislation beyond a purely national context.
Dual Nationality in the European Union
The book examines the phenomenon of dual nationality in the European Union, particularly against the background of the status of European citizenship – a status that is linked to the nationality of each EU Member State. While the first part sets out the approach towards (dual) nationality in Public and Private International Law as well as in EU Law, the second part consists of an overview of the dual nationality regimes in France, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain. The book shows that the autonomy of Member States in the field of nationality law is becoming increasingly problematic for the EU, and the author takes the position that there is arguably a need for the (minimum) harmonization of European nationality laws.

A gestação de substituição coloca desafios a conceitos, institutos ou figuras jurídicas tradicionais, quer do Direito Contratual, quer do Direito da Família e dos Direitos Fundamentais de todas as partes envolvidas. Adicionalmente, os perigos, riscos e consequências da prática da gestação de substituição transfronteiriça têm despertado cada vez mais o interesse e a preocupação de instituições e organizações europeias e internacionais, debatendo-se a necessidade e urgência dos Estados legislarem (interna e internacionalmente) sobre o tema e, sobretudo, de garantirem os direitos da criança nascida na sequência de um contrato de gestação de substituição. Neste contexto, propomos o estudo das problemáticas e desafios da gestação de substituição, desde os seus conceitos basilares aos argumentos favoráveis ou obstativos à sua prática, incluindo o regime jurídico na ordem jurídica portuguesa e a gestação de substituição transfronteiriça.
