Mechanics Of Elastic Solids
This book examines the issues across the breadth of elasticity theory. Firstly, the underpinning mathematics of vectors and matrices is covered. Thereafter, the equivalence between the inidicial, symbolic and matrix notations used for tensors is illustrated in the preparation for specific types of material behaviour to be expressed, usually as a response function from which a constitutive stress-strain relation follow.Mechanics of Elastic Solids shows that the elastic response of solid materials has many forms. Metals and their alloys confirm dutifully to Hooke's law. Non-metals do not when the law connecting stress to strain is expressed in polynomial, exponential and various empirical, material specific forms. Transforming Water Management in South Africa
One of the early set of reforms that South Africa embarked on after emerging from apartheid was in the water sector, following a remarkable, consultative process. The policy and legal reforms were comprehensive and covered almost all aspects of water management including revolutionary changes in defining and allocating rights to water, radical reforms in water management and supply institutions, the introduction of the protection of environmental flows, and major shifts in charging for water use and in the provision of free basic water. Over ten years of implementation of these policy and legislative changes mean that valuable lessons have already been learned and useful experiences gained in the challenge of effective water resources management and water services provision in a middle income country.

Lolita between Adaptation and Interpretation
"This book offers a comparative analysis of three versions of Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita: namely, the original novel (1955), the script written by the novelist himself and published as Lolita: A Screenplay (1974), and Stanley Kubrick's film based on Lolita's storyline (1962). Kubrick's final product oscillates between adaptation and interpretation, as it draws from both Nabokov's novel and script, but also uses the improvisational talents of the cast, eventually rendering the director's firm auteurial hand clearly visible throughout the film. The book analyses how various additions and subtractions made first by Nabokov as a screenwriter, and later by Kubrick as a movie director, influence the reception of the four main characters: Lolita, Humbert Humbert, Charlotte Haze, and Clare Quilty. The original novel's multilayered web of intertextual references -- among them the works of Edgar Allan Poe and the typically Nabokovian critique of Freudian theories -- becomes significantly reduced in the script and the film, with Kubrick additionally enriching the film version of the story with cinematic references"--Provided by publisher.
