The Siege of Charleston, 1861-1865
On April 12, 1861, Fort Sumter was fired on by the Confederate batteries located around the Charleston Harbor. Within thirty-four hours, the fort had surrendered. From that moment on, the recapturing of Fort Sumter became one of the Union's most important objectives. Nearly four years elapsed before the Northern forces were successful. The Siege of Charleston provides the complete history of those four important years in the history of the Civil War.

The region embraced in these studies lies between MD & TX. It comprises the faunas of the various watersheds of this part of the Atlantic & Gulf slopes. Frequent comparison with many of the drainages of the TN & MI valleys has been necessary; much of the material reported from those areas has been re-examined. The inception of this report, however, begins with the collections made by Francis Harper from 1930-1945. The lots of fishes he gathered during his southern trips have been studied. Extensive noteworthy collections were made by Joseph Galloway. These were supplemented by Fowler¿s own collecting trips & the staff of the Acad. of Nat. A Short Dictionary of Furniture
Originally published in 1952 but enlarged and revised in 1969, this dictionary became a standard authoritative work of reference. It contains 2,612 entries and over 1,000 illustrations, reproduced from contemporary sources and from drawings by Ronald Escott, Marcelle Barton and Maureen Stafford. The work is divided into 6 sections: the first and second concern the description and design of furniture, the third contains the entries, the fourth gives a list of furniture makers in Britain and North America, section five records books and periodicals on furniture and design and the concluding section sets out in tabular form the periods with the materials used, and types of craftsmen employed from 1100 to 1950.

Dixie Clockmakers
The first in-depth study of Southern clockmakers and the magnificent artistry they brought to eighteenth- and nineteenth-century timepieces. Entitled Dixie Clockmakers, this volume traces the development of clockmaking and horological history below the Mason-Dixon line and documents the works of those artisans who designed and constructed some of the world’s finest timepieces. Author James W. Gibbs focuses primarily upon clockmaking in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and the District of Columbia, but attention also is given to eight other states. Included are some sixty photographs illustrating outstanding examples and details of Southern clockmaking. Dixie Clockmakers also lists every known clockmaker and watchmaker in the South during the two centuries, along with nomenclature common at the time, and advertisements used by individual craftsmen.
