Dorchester
In the early twentieth century, Dorchester was called "the model town of New England." It was the most favored residential section of Boston, bathed by ocean winds from the east, picturesque rivers and hills to the south, the finest boulevards and parks to the west, and a great city just ten minutes away via the best rapid-transit system in the world. As a result, the population increased from fifteen hundred during the Revolutionary War to two hundred thousand in the early 1900s. Dorchester looks at this neighborly community of skilled mechanics, tradesmen, and professionals through vintage postcards.

VOLUME III - PHOTO ALBUM: This book is a companion volume to the revised edition of the Wallick family history book titled "Hans Michael Wallick’s Descendants in America: European Origins from 1623." Starting in 2008 we had a Wallick family website where we gathered and shared old heirloom photos from all of the branches of our Hans Michael Wallick family tree. But Ancestry.com stopped hosting these Myfamily.com websites in 2014. This book contains all of the photos that had been contributed for sharing on that website. It also includes new photos that have been contributed since the first edition. This book is the best way to organize and preserve all of these heirloom photos of the Wallick family for future generations.
Bluegrass in Baltimore
With an influx of Appalachian migrants who came looking for work in the 1940s and 1950s, Baltimore found itself populated by some extraordinary mountain musicians and was for a brief time the center of the bluegrass world. Life in Baltimore for these musicians was not easy. There were missed opportunities, personal demons and always the up-hill battle with prejudice against their hillbilly origins. Based upon interviews with legendary players from the golden age of Baltimore bluegrass, this book provides the first in-depth coverage of this transplanted-roots music and its broader influence, detailing the struggles Appalachian musicians faced in a big city that viewed the music they made as the “poorest example of poor man’s music.”
