This publication, initiated by the Korean Society of Medical Informatics (KOSMI) and its Nursing Informatics Specialist Group, and the Special Interest Group in Nursing Informatics of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA-NI), is published for nurses and informatics experts working with informatics applications in nursing care, administration, research and education, bringing together the worlds of nursing informatics community. Korea is well known for having the highest level of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) accessibility in the world. Advances in ICT in Korea have lead Korean health care sectors to fully utilize the benefit of ICT for health care. The the...
This is a book of a series on interdisciplinary topics on the Mathematical and Biological Sciences. The chapters correspond to selected papers on special research themes, which have been presented at BIOMAT 2014 International Symposium on Mathematical and Computational Biology which was held in the Stefan Banach International Mathematical Centre at Bedlewo near Poznan, Poland on November 03 - 07, 2014. The treatment is both pedagogical yet advanced in order to motivate research students as well as to fulfill the requirements of professional practitioners. As in the other volumes of this series, there are new important results on the interdisciplinary fields of mathematical and biological sciences and comprehensive reviews written by prominent scientific leaders of famous research groups.
Fuzzy set approaches are suitable to use when the modeling of human knowledge is necessary and when human evaluations are needed. Fuzzy set theory is recognized as an important problem modeling and solution technique. It has been studied ext- sively over the past 40 years. Most of the early interest in fuzzy set theory pertained to representing uncertainty in human cognitive processes. Fuzzy set theory is now - plied to problems in engineering, business, medical and related health sciences, and the natural sciences. This book handles the fuzzy cases of classical engineering e- nomics topics. It contains 15 original research and application chapters including different topics of fuzzy engineering economics. When no probabilities are available for states of nature, decisions are given under uncertainty. Fuzzy sets are a good tool for the operation research analyst facing unc- tainty and subjectivity. The main purpose of the first chapter is to present the role and importance of fuzzy sets in the economic decision making problem with the literature review of the most recent advances.
This book features interviews of 38 eminent mathematicians and mathematical scientists who were invited to participate in the programs of the Institute for Mathematical Sciences, National University of Singapore. Originally published in its newsletter Imprints from 2003 to 2009, these interviews give a fascinating and insightful glimpse into the passion driving some of the most creative minds in modern research in pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, economics and engineering. The reader is drawn into a panorama of the past and present development of some of the ideas that have revolutionized modern science and mathematics. This book should be relevant to those who are interested in the history and psychology of ideas. It should provide motivation, inspiration and guidance to students who aspire to do research and to beginning researchers who are looking for career niches. For those who wish to be broadly educated, it is informative without delving into excessive technical details and is, at the same time, thought provoking enough to arouse their curiosity to learn more about the world around them.
This book studies optimized models with fuzzy quantities. It can be used by undergraduates in higher education, master graduates and doctor graduates. It also serves as a reference for researchers, particularly for those in the field of soft science.
Mathematics of Fuzziness – Basic Issues introduces a basic notion of ‘fuzziness’ and provides a conceptual mathematical framework to characterize such fuzzy phenomena in Studies in Fuzziness and Soft Computing. The book systematically presents a self-contained introduction to the essentials of mathematics of fuzziness ranging from fuzzy sets, fuzzy relations, fuzzy numbers, fuzzy algebra, fuzzy measures, fuzzy integrals, and fuzzy topology to fuzzy control in a strictly mathematical manner. It contains most of the authors’ research results in the field of fuzzy set theory and has evolved from the authors’ lecture notes to both undergraduate and graduate students over the last three decades. A lot of exercises in each chapter of the book are particularly suitable as a textbook for any undergraduate and graduate student in mathematics, computer science and engineering. The reading of the book will surely lay a solid foundation for further research on fuzzy set theory and its applications.
This title includes a number of Open Access chapters. In the last several decades, international traffic volume has significantly increased, raising the risk of infectious diseases and their spread. In this important volume, the impact of health issues is explored in connection with travel. Not only does the book explore the risk of diseases such as
In this incisive book, André Duarte examines the health crisis resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and the contemporary crisis of democracy. Reflecting on President Jair Bolsonaro’s misgovernment of Brazil, as evidenced by his political actions, speeches and omissions from March 2020 to September 2021, and using concepts like biopolitics, neoliberalism and necropolitics, Duarte proposes three interrelated hypotheses to demonstrate Bolsonaro's sharp distrust of democracy. First, that Bolsonaro’s rhetoric, actions and omissions during the first year and a half of the pandemic revealed a dangerous mixture of biopolitical, neoliberal and necropolitical governmentality strategies. Second, t...
Drug Injecting and HIV Infection is a comparative international study of drug injecting behaviour and HIV infection based on the World Health Organization's study of 13 cities as disparate as Athens, Bangkok, Glasgow and Rio de Janeiro. Using a standardized methodology for the collection of data, as well as central data management and analysis, this study represents the largest international project of its kind. It presents a comprehensive overview of what is currently known about drug injecting, HIV infection, epidemic dynamics and possibilities for prevention. Stressing the importance of linking research to intervention and policy, the contributors emphasize the need to place HIV and policy issues on the international agenda. Written by experts in the field, this global study offers an in-depth and definitive analysis of the subject.
