Vorarlberg war im Zweiten Weltkrieg ein Hotspot der Desertion von Soldaten der Wehrmacht und der Waffen-SS aus dem gesamten Deutschen Reich. Die vermeintlich leicht zu überwindende Grenze zur Schweiz lockte Hunderte kriegsmüde Soldaten in das Montafon, an den oberen Rhein und den Bodensee.
