This checklist does not supercede any other because it is the first of its kind for the Neotropical region. It represents the cUlmination of several years preparation by the con tributing authors and editor, following the initiation of the "Atlas" project in the autumn of 1978. The collaborators to the project continue their work, either for "Atlas" fascicles or for the more immediate completion of the remaining five parts of the checklist. The goal of the project is to provide a foundation work on the Neotropical Lepidoptera, illustrated to the extent possible and encompassing a detailed text covering the basic data known for each described species (original citation, synonymy, diagnosis, r...
Gillott’s thorough yet clear writing style continues to keep Entomology near the top of the class as a text for senior undergraduates, and for graduate students and professionals seeking an introduction to specific entomological topics. The author’s long-held belief that an introductory entomology course should present a balanced treatment of the subject is reflected in the continued arrangement of the book in four sections: Evolution and Diversity, Anatomy and Physiology, Reproduction and Development, and Ecology. For the third edition, all chapters have been updated. This includes not only the addition of new information and concepts but also the reduction or exclusion of material no longer considered "mainstream", so as to keep the book at a reasonable size. Based on exciting discoveries made during the previous decade, the topics of insect evolutionary relationships, semiochemicals, gas exchange, immune responses (including those of parasites and parasitoids), flight, and the management of pests have received particular attention in the preparation of the third edition. Overall, more than 30 new or significantly revised figures have been incorporated.
My First Reading Book is a tool to help teach beginner readers how to read. It is a good next step for children who have just mastered the alphabet and sounds of each letter. Intentionally, there are no pictures in this book, instead the focus is upon the words themselves, to keep distractions to a minimum. It starts with some 3 letter words, then moves on to 4 and then 5 letter words, then finishes by using most of the words in short, complete sentences. It's perfect for helping them to 'sound out' words and learn by memorization a few very common simple words that are used frequently in the English language. Watch how proud children will be at mastering a new skill, reading!
A Book of Dog Breeds for ChildrenThey're All DogsA book for young children introducing them to the idea of different dog breeds. I found when teaching very young children about dogs; they seemed to be confused when taught (for example) that a poodle was a dog, then seeing a Chihuahua, that it was a dog as well. This is an educational, yet fun book for parents to read out loud to young children, or for early readers. This book can easily become a family favorite when reading to your child for the giggles and laughter than can result. The book features photographs of 21 different dog breeds, some common, and some unusual. It contains some exercises for parents and children to do together that can foster fun and bonding. Parents prepare your best dog noises that will leave you both giggling!
