Pengetahuan tradisional merupakan pengetahuan yang dimiliki oleh masyarakat sebagai tradisi dalam bentuk karya intelektual. Pengetahuan tradisional tersebut menjadi ekspresi budaya tradisonal yang dipelajari secara turun-temurun. Begitu juga dengan tenun tradisonal yang menjadi salah satu ekspresi budaya tradisional masyarakat Indonesia. Salah satunya adalah Tenun Nambo yang ada di Kabupaten Banggai Provinsi Sulawesi Tengah. Pengetahuan tersebut diajarkan secara turun-temurun untuk melestarikan budaya masyarakat Suku Saluan. Namun di sisi lain pengetahuan tersebut dapat meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat. Untuk itu perlu adanya perlindungan hak kekayaan intelektual terhadap Tenun Nambo sebagai ekspresi budaya tradisional. Untuk memberikan perlindungan tentunya harus memahami tentang Hak kekayaan Intelektual dan jenis-jenisnya. Sehingga jenis perlindungan Hak Kekayaan Intelektual yang diberikan tepat sasaran untuk memberikan perlindungan hak moral dan hak ekonomi terhadap Tenun Nambo tersebut.
