Canyon School is a historical landmark because it has one of the oldest existing school buildings still being used in Los Angeles. It has served the community well and should be recognized as a perfect example of what a school should be. I am extremely grateful I had the privilege of attending Canyon School when I did. It made me a better person. Of all the teachers I knew and schools I attended after Canyon School, none of them left me with lasting priceless memories like those I cherish from Canyon School. This book is a memoir of Ernest Marquez's time at Canyon School (1930-1936), which includes historic photos and illustrations done by the author at ages 7 and 8 as a student at the school.

GPR Remote Sensing in Archaeology
GPR Remote Sensing in Archaeology provides a complete description of the processes needed to take raw GPR data all the way to the construction of subsurface images. The book provides an introduction to the “theory” of GPR by using a simulator that shows how radar profiles across simple model structures look and provides many examples so that the complexity of radar signatures can be understood. It continues with a review of the necessary radargram signal processes needed along with examples. The most comprehensive methodology to construct subsurface images from either coarsely spaced data using interpolation or from dense data from multi-channel equipment and 3D volume generation is presented, advanced imaging solutions such as overlay analysis are introduced, and numerous worldwide site case histories are shown. The authors present their studies in a way that most technical and non-technical users of the equipment will find essentials for implementing in their own subsurface investigations.
San Gabriel
San Gabriel is often referred to as the birthplace of the Los Angeles region. The areas first inhabitants were native peoples often called Gabrieleo because of their association with the San Gabriel Mission, which was founded in 1771; the mission became the fourth and most productive of the 21 California missions built along El Camino Real. Saloons and gambling halls arrived during the Wild West era, and shoot-outs became commonplace. Joshua Bean owned one such saloon until his 1852 murder. His brother, the future judge Roy Bean, inherited and operated his Headquarters Saloon until Roy was run out of town by local authorities. The vintage images in this book chronicle San Gabriel through the 20th century, covering city growth and oddities, including early resident William Money, the regions first documented cult leader and founder of the Moneyan Institute, and the infamous Man From Mars bandit, who terrorized the community with grocery store robberies.
