Kniha představuje zasvěcené pojednání o významu snů. První část popisuje metodiku výkladu snů, různé funkce snu (kompenzační, situační, redukční atd.) i druhy snů např. podle hloubky (běžné, závažnější, velké archetypové) či věku (dětské, pubertální, na prahu smrti apod.). Autor rovněž zdůrazňuje význam skupiny snů, které se točí kolem jednoho tématu. Druhá část zahrnuje stručnou charakteristiku 500 symbolů, které se ve snech nejčastěji vyskytují. Tyto výklady sice nelze brát doslova, ale je možné díky nim získat určitá vodítka pro nalezení snového smyslu. Symboly jsou seřazeny podle tematických okruhů (např. sny o jídle, škole, zvířatech, domech, barvách, hudbě, filmu). Kniha je určena těm, kdo se snaží vnímat sny jako důležitá sdělení své psýché a chtějí se něco dozvědět o tom, co v denním shonu uniklo jejich vědomí. Vhodná je také pro psychoterapeuty, kteří vykládají sny se svými klienty.
