English for international relations
The present work aims at analysing different types of text in the International Relations field. The texts are arranged according to the source they were taken from. Hereby follows a set of seven readings taken from international documents such as international law, treaties, conventions, agreements; a set of four extracts taken from speeches and declarations; a set of eleven articles related to international issues organised into two different sections according to the geographical area they focus on. Clear objectives are stated for each text. In particular, in the first section the analysis is mainly devoted to the specific lexis of documentary English and to its typical grammatical structures. In the second section the use of rhetorical devices (metaphor, metonymy, oxymoron...) is predominantly taken into consideration for the correct understanding of the contents. Language in the Negotiation of Justice
This book explores the ways language is used by the professional legal community for the communication of its main business - the negotiation of justice - in today’s globalized world. The volume addresses three main aspects of language use in the negotiation of justice. Beginning with the legal contexts of litigation, arbitration and mediation, the book moves on to discuss the main issues identified in those contexts and finally it explores the applications of legal linguistics. Pakistani Englishes
This book explores how non-native speakers, especially in postcolonial states, use English to communicate. Focusing on Pakistan, the monograph analyzes word categories, phrase and sentence structures used in the region and compares them to British English. It draws extensively from language used in the media and uses Lexical Functional Grammar (LFG) parsers to develop the phrase structures for qualitative analysis and a manual approach to quantify the frequency of various types of phrases. The volume also highlights the possible reasons for the differences and locates language use in context. L’Analisi Linguistica e Letteraria è una rivista internazionale di linguistica e letteratura peer reviewed. Ha una prospettiva sia sincronica che diacronica e accoglie ricerche di natura teorica e applicata. Seguendo un orientamento spiccatamente interdisciplinare, si propone di approfondire la comprensione dei processi di analisi testuale in ambito letterario come anche in ambito linguistico. La rivista è organizzata in tre sezioni: la prima contiene saggi e articoli; la seconda presenta discussioni e analisi d’opera relative alle scienze linguistiche e letterarie; la terza sezione ospita recensioni e una rassegna di brevi schede bibliografiche riguardanti la linguistica generale e le linguistiche delle singole lingue (francese, inglese, russo, tedesco). La rivista pubblica regolarmente articoli in francese, inglese, italiano e tedesco, e occasionalmente anche in altre lingue: nel 2010, ad esempio, ha pubblicato un volume tematico interamente in russo.
