Innovation in Clusters
Forged at the heart of international political bodies by expert researchers, the innovation cluster concept has been incorporated into most public policies in industrialized countries. Based largely on the ideas behind the success of Silicon Valley, several imitative attempts have been made to geographically group laboratories, companies and training in particular fields in order to generate “synergies” between science and industry. In its first part, Innovation in Clusters analyzes the infatuation with the system of clusters that is integral to innovative policies by analyzing its socio historical context, its revival in management and its worldwide expansion, looking at a French example at a local level. In its second part, the book explores a specialized biotechnology cluster dating back to the end of the 1990s. The sociological survey conducted twenty years later sheds a different light on the dynamics and relationships between laboratories and companies, contradicting the commonly held belief that innovation is made possible by geographical proximity.
Personalized Health and Precision Medicine in Practice
So-called personalized health and precision medicine consist of a plethora of distinct endeavors. Ranging from pharmacogenomics to big data medicine, these endeavors are set out to tailor treatment and prevention to different combinations of data on the biological, behavioral, social, and environmental determinants of health. Currently reaching the trial of implementation across a diverse range of local and national contexts, these innovations call for a thorough empirical scrutiny of the normative, practical, and technical reconfigurations that they engender. Personalized/precision approaches to medicine demand substantive, normative work that consists in reforming social contracts in healthcare, and in ensuring a consistent commitment to change from both institutional actors and citizens.

Forgé au coeur des instances politiques internationales par des chercheurs-experts, le cluster d’innovation a été transposé dans la plupart des politiques publiques des pays industrialisés. S’appuyant largement sur la rhétorique du succès de la Silicon Valley, plusieurs tentatives ont vu le jour pour regrouper géographiquement laboratoires, entreprises et formations dans un domaine particulier afin qu’émergent des « synergies » entre science et industrie. Innovation en cluster analyse dans la première partie l’engouement porté au dispositif de cluster au coeur des politiques d’innovation en analysant sa dimension sociohistorique, son renouveau gestionnaire et sa diffusion mondiale jusqu’à un exemple local français. Dans la deuxième partie, l’ouvrage propose de partir à la découverte d’un cluster spécialisé dans les biotechnologies depuis la fin des années 1990. L’enquête sociologique menée vingt ans plus tard donne un éclairage différent des dynamiques relationnelles entre laboratoires et entreprises, contrebalançant ainsi les promesses d’innovation permises par la proximité géographique.

The Corriveau of America
Etienne Corriveau was born 16 January 1646 in Fonclaireau, France. His parents were François Corriveau and Marguerite Bernard. He married Catherine Bureau (1651-1707, daughter of Jacques Bureau and Marguerite Verrier, 28 October 1669 in Ste-Famille, Quebec. They had nine children. He died 19 October 1693 in St-Vallier, Quebec. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Quebec. Some descendants immigrated to the United States.

Creative Rationality and Innovation
This book urges us to be creative in our way of thinking about innovation. Adopting an artificial perspective, the author emphasizes creative rationality: a form of thought that encourages knowledge crossing and invites an adventurous transgression. The question of how such a form of thought might be developed is addressed through a detailed examination of the educational system. The book frees itself from many of the myths that surround innovation, including the predominance of what the author calls the linear and hierarchical model.
