Is the gospel still relevant today? Secular humanism is in competition with Christianity. As we become more inclined to see ourselves through the lens of therapeutic self-understanding, the role of the gospel has become increasingly irrelevant. When life presents us with its challenges we can now turn to psychology as instinctively as we once turned to God. This book is an attempt to examine what has been altered, lost, or compromised by that change in focus. It is, in particular, a question to the church: in yoking its gospel to therapeutic pragmatism has the church become more effective and relevant, or sacrificed its soul? This book struggles to answer that question and to examine what the Gospel actually reveals as to who we are, what has gone wrong with us, and how we come to again achieve wholeness and meaning in life.
Baerg, 1777-1992
Jacob (Baerg) Berg was born in 1777 possibly in Holland. He married twice and had 17 children. Eventually the family ended up in Russia before several children moved to the United States and Canada. Information on many of the descendants who live in Canada and through out the United States is given in this volume.
