Qurratulain Hyder on the Move
In a career spanning seven decades, Qurratulain Hyder (1927–2007) achieved distinction as a novelist, journalist, translator, and innovator in Urdu literature. To shed new light on this multilingual itinerant woman with a curatorial eye, the present study turns to Hyder’s genre-bending reportage writing, which has not yet garnered the same scholarly attention as her majestic novels and short stories. At once autobiographical, admonitory, journalistic, and lyrical, these reportages offer glimpses of Hyder’s multigenerational erudition, artistry, and mastery of Perso-Urdu poetic aesthetics, as well as the challenges she faced when breaking from histories freighted by patriarchal, colonial, and nationalist enterprises.

The Urdu Ghazal
The Urdu Ghazal presents the unique flowering of the ghazal as a by-product of India’s composite culture. It explores a variety of influences on the ghazal, including Sufism, Bhakti movement, and infusion of Rekhta and Persian languages and culture. The book elucidates classical ghazal forms that blossomed from the seeds sown by Amir Khusrau in the fourteenth century to achieve great heights of literary excellence during the next 300 years, notably in the works of great poets like Mir and Ghalib. It also illustrates different socio-political and cultural demands of changing times, primarily how the ghazal provided new creative models to deal with literary movements like progressivism, modernism, and postmodernism, through works of pioneering twentieth-century poets like Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Gulzar, and Javed Akhtar.
Sahir
Sahir Ludhianvi (1921–1980), a remarkable film lyricist, was also an iconic literary poet. Surinder Deol paints a sensitive portrait that reveals an artist who was aware of the depth of his poetic message as well as of his ability to present it in words that captured the reader’s imagination. Sahir looked outward at the world to find beauty in nature for inspiration while at the same time raising his voice against poverty, deprivation, and the denial of social justice. The book contains free verse translation of over ninety of Sahir’s literary creations, including poems, ghazals, bhajans, and a long peace poem called Parchhaaiyaan (The Shadows). Proceedings of the First Conference of Psychology and Flourishing Humanity (PFH 2022)
This is an open access book. This Flourishing Humanity conference is hosted annually in September, and provides a number of research results in relation to the leading scholarly topics on social science and humanities. The conference seeks leading themes of a variety of interdisciplinary specialties, which bridges scholars’ discussions to present their papers and converse on the theme of flourishing humanity. This event of flourishing humanity is designed in the focus on life satisfaction, prosperity, wholeness, adaptiveness, authenticity, life measurement, and autonomy. The conference was held in 22 - 23 September 2022 in Malang, Indonesia in the form of hybrid, which presents keynote speakers, plenary sessions and invited lecturers in parallel sessions. All participants will have a virtual access to join the conference and all authors will have opportunities to present their work either the virtual or on-site mode.
