Today, information and technological developments grow at a rapid pace. Social and political life becomes more and more complicated and, in this process, active citizenship becomes more essential. Knowledge-driven changes in society and economies require individuals to quickly acquire new skills. Otherwise, it is increasingly difficult for employees to adapt to business life and to find a job. Education has to take account of these circumstances, adapt to the rapid developments in the world and educate individuals to continue lifelong learning. For this, skills such as active and independent learning, assertiveness, creativity, self-improvement, lifelong learning are important. Skill teachin...
Flavonoids are well-known plant metabolites that have extraordinary properties that can be used for treating health issues. The pharmaceutical importance of flavonoids is due to their anti-depressant, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant capacities. They are also of great importance when it comes to neuroprotection, cardiovascular disorders, and many types of cancer. Flavonoids are also easily available and produce less harmful side effects than some conventional therapeutics. This new volume examines the growing use of flavonoids for prevention and treatment of diseases and discusses their beneficial mechanisms. Chapters in the volume address diverse uses as anti-aging tools, as anti-inflammatory agents, for treating pregnancy-induced disorders, as a promising tool to combat infection of Covid-19, etc. The book explores their specific therapeutic antiviral potentials, the gene expression by flavonoids, and the role of flavonoids in agriculture.

This edited volume emphasizes how microorganisms have become a reliable pillar of biotechnology. The authors discuss advances in synthetic biology and genetic engineering that have made it possible to reprogram the microbial cellular capabilities. This enables an economically viable production of high-value products at an industrial level. The first part of the book provides an overview of synthetic biology and genome editing tools for engineering microbial cell factories in modern fermentation. Readers also learn how high-throughput bioprocessing methods are used to recover and purify microbial products. The remaining parts of this book explore the implementation and challenges of these upstream and downstream processing techniques for manufacturing high-value products. Cost-effectiveness and quality-control are key factors, when discussing the production of low-molecular-weight products, biopharmaceuticals, biopolymers and protein-based nanoparticles. This book is a valuable resource for biotechnologists both in the industry and in academia.
