Progetto Monti Lepini
Nel proseguire l'attività pubblicistica con la quale la Provincia di Latina attende alla divulgazione di ricerche ed approfondimenti legati alle tematiche paesaggistico-ambientali che hanno ricadute sulla quotidiana attività gestionale, viene ospitato nella collana del Progetto Monitoraggio Acque Superficiali Interne e Costiere della Provincia di Latina, un approfondito progetto di ricerca idrogeologica sulla dorsale dei monti Lepini. Dallo studio è scaturito un quadro conoscitivo di grande complessità, dove una nuova lettura dei caratteri geologico-strutturali della dorsale, interfacciata con le informazioni acquisite con le campagne idrogeologiche ed idrochimiche condotte sulla struttura e nella piana antistante, nonché la verifica delle idroesigenze attuali e future del comprensorio Latina Nord, ha permesso di definire arealmente e volumetricamente la geometria del serbatoio Lepino, definire lo stato di conservazione della risorsa, la sua vulnerabilità ed esposizione al rischio di inquinamento e/o sovrasfruttamento, permettendo così di delineare, con buona approssimazione, gli indirizzi fondamentali per la sua futura e corretta gestione.
TRUST IN ROBOTS
Robots are increasingly becoming prevalent in our daily lives within our living or working spaces. We hope that robots will take up tedious, mundane or dirty chores and make our lives more comfortable, easy and enjoyable by providing companionship and care. However, robots may pose a threat to human privacy, safety and autonomy; therefore, it is necessary to have constant control over the developing technology to ensure the benevolent intentions and safety of autonomous systems. Building trust in (autonomous) robotic systems is thus necessary. The title of this book highlights this challenge: “Trust in robots—Trusting robots”. Herein, various notions and research areas associated with robots are unified. The theme “Trust in robots” addresses the development of technology that is trustworthy for users; “Trusting robots” focuses on building a trusting relationship with robots, furthering previous research. These themes and topics are at the core of the PhD program “Trust Robots” at TU Wien, Austria.
Research Handbook on the Law of Artificial Intelligence
The field of artificial intelligence (AI) has made tremendous advances in the last two decades, but as smart as AI is now, it is getting smarter and becoming more autonomous. This raises a host of challenges to current legal doctrine, including whether AI/algorithms should count as ‘speech’, whether AI should be regulated under antitrust and criminal law statutes, and whether AI should be considered as an agent under agency law or be held responsible for injuries under tort law. The word robot originates from a play that was about artificial humans made from artificial flesh that aims to serve real humans. With advancements in robotics, the materialization of this idea is more real than ever before. We are witnessing attempts to create humanoid robots that might be deployed in many spheres of our life - policing, healthcare, and even for love and sex. The book focuses on the ethical issues of human likeness of robots and human tendency to anthropomorphize. It is built on the assumption that design choices are not neutral, and they need to be discussed to align robots with human values. With robots operating in the physical world, they bring ideas and risks that should be addressed before widespread deployment. The book reviews specific issues and provides suggestions and recommendations for improving robots to serve humans better. It draws on literature from Human-Robot Interactions, ethics of AI and robotics, and the philosophy of technology.
