Fisheries Management of Mexican and Central American Estuaries
The tropical estuarine systems of Mexico and Central America are an important part of the region ́s coastlines; for example Mexico alone possesses more than 770 thousand hectares of mangroves, as well as the largest estuarine mangrove complex on the American Pacific (Marismas Nacionales), yet is one of the poorest studied areas in the world. This is the first book that deals extensively with fisheries management issues in this region from physical-chemistry, ecological and socioeconomic views, providing an understanding on the function and the effects of human activities on these areas, with works undertaken by local scientist.
Aquatic Habitat Ecology & Conservation: Continental and Marine Ecosystems Connectivity
The ‘Aquatic Habitat Conservation in South America’ Symposium occurred during the XXI Brazilian Society of Ichthyology Meeting. The proceedings were published as a special issue in the Journal of Fish Biology (vol. 89, Number 1, June 2016). In this special issue, authors provided an analytical overview of problems faced by the conservation of fishes and aquatic habitats of South America. Habitat loss emerged as the greatest concern for all South American aquatic ecosystems, with a long list of causes related to unsustainable development models. Based on this finding, we would like to extend this topic to other continents, different climates, fauna and flora around the world. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive and multidisciplinary overview of variables that influence flora and fauna distributions and shape their ecological interactions within aquatic ecosystems
Estuarine Perspectives
Estuarine Perspectives presents most of the invited papers presented at the Fifth Biennial International Research Conference on Estuarine Research. The book includes information on one tropical and two Arctic estuaries; contemporary techniques as applied to estuarine research; and some hypotheses of estuarine ecology. Italian Witchcraft and Shamanism
Shamanism is thriving as an exotic import and a hidden native tradition in Italy today. This ethnographical work uncovers two faces of Italian shamanism.
