Motivation – The Gender Perspective of Young People''s Images of Science, Engineering and Technology (SET)
The authors discuss individual and societal factors which influence the gender biased image of science, engineering and technology (SET) prevalent in young people. From different angles the authors investigate the consequences of this often unattractive but also partly obsolete image for gendered study and occupational choices of girls and boys. Besides peers, school and media as main influencing socialisation instances the contributions focus on young people’s selfconcept regarding the development of gendered attitudes towards SET. Further this book includes approaches and concepts of inclusion measures aiming on changing the image of SET and attracting young people, and especially girls, for these study and job fields.

English summary: This volume comprises a total of eighteen contributions that were mainly presented in the form of lectures or on posters in the context of the symposium of the same name (careers in research and development - conditions and prospects against the background of the interaction between the institution and the individual). The symposium was held between 2011 and 2013 at the University of Furtwangen on behalf of the STAFF research project, sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the European Union's European Social Fund. German description: Der Band umfasst insgesamt 18 Beitrage, die uberwiegend im Rahmen des gleichnamigen Symposiums "Karriereverlaufe in Forschung und Entwicklung - Bedingungen und Perspektiven im Spannungsfeld von Organisation und Individuum" in Form von Vortragen oder Postern vorgestellt wurden. Veranstaltet wurde das Symposium an der Hochschule Furtwangen durch das Forschungsvorhaben STAFF, das von 2011 bis 2013 vom Bundesministerium fur Bildung und Forschung und aus dem Europaischen Sozialfonds der Europaischen Union gefordert wurde.
