This book highlights the tribological behavior of elastomers by investigating the effect of operating variables such as, the applied load and the abrasive particle size, and the materials’ mechanical properties such as, tensile strength, elongation at break, hardness, and tear strength by the experimental, statistical and analytical methods. It is found that the wear mechanism is mostly friction wear, which is mixed with fatigue wear and abrading under higher applied loads or larger abrasives. The statistical method shows that the abrasive particle size has the highest contribution followed by the applied load on the wear process. Wear equation is developed to predict the wear rate considering the trends of the input variables.
Metal cutting is a science and technology of great interest for several important industries, such as automotive, aeronautics, aerospace, moulds and dies, biomedicine, etc. Metal cutting is a manufacturing process in which parts are shaped by removal of unwanted material. The interest for this topic increased over the last twenty years, with rapid advances in materials science, automation and control, and computers technology. The present volume aims to provide research developments in metal cutting for modern industry. This volume can be used by students, academics, researchers, and engineering professionals in mechanical, manufacturing, and materials industries. THE SERIES: ADVANCED MECHAN...
Machining of Metal Matrix Composites provides the fundamentals and recent advances in the study of machining of metal matrix composites (MMCs). Each chapter is written by an international expert in this important field of research. Machining of Metal Matrix Composites gives the reader information on machining of MMCs with a special emphasis on aluminium matrix composites. Chapter 1 provides the mechanics and modelling of chip formation for traditional machining processes. Chapter 2 is dedicated to surface integrity when machining MMCs. Chapter 3 describes the machinability aspects of MMCs. Chapter 4 contains information on traditional machining processes and Chapter 5 is dedicated to the gri...

Ca. 200 words; this text will present the book in all promotional forms (e.g. flyers). Please describe the book in straightforward and consumer-friendly terms.[In recent years, advanced nanocomposites have attracted a great deal of attention from materials engineers and industrialists due to numerous advantages, including the use of a small amount of nanofillers to significantly enhance the material properties of resulting nanocomposites, widespread applications in a range of fields, such as automobiles, aerospace and aerocrafts, building structures, biomedical devices, etc., as well as easy processibility based on current manufacturing technologies, such as melt compounding, solution castin...
"Frontispiece: Poem and calligraphy by Adonis, XXXX. Translated by Bassam Frangieh" --T.p. verso.
Sliding friction is one of the oldest problems in physics and certainly one of the most important from a practical point of view. The ability to produce durable low-friction surfaces and lubricant fluids has become an important factor in the miniaturization of moving components in many technological devices, e.g., magnetic storage, recording systems, miniature motors and many aerospace components. This book will be useful to physicists, chemists, materials scientists, and engineers who want to understand sliding friction. The book (or parts of it) could also form the basis for a modern undergraduate or graduate course on tribology.
Aluminium (Al) is a metal of great importance because of its excellent corrosion resistance, high electrical and thermal conductivity, good reflectivity, and very good recycling characteristics. The properties of heat-treatable Al-alloys can be further enhanced by the inclusion of a reinforcing phase that increases the mechanical properties of the overall composite. This book is a comprehensive guide on the different types of aluminum alloys and the new advances that have been made in developing and manufacturing aluminum alloys and composites. This text provides a comprehensive overview of the processing, formability, and chemical composition of aluminum alloys and composites. Part One is focused on evaluating the types and properties of advanced aluminum alloys and composites, while Part Two explores characterization. The advantage of this book is that it provides a detailed review of major advances that have occurred in the development and application of aluminum alloys and composites while outlining a development strategy for these materials.
Nowadays, the use of composite materials has increased in various areas of science and technology due to their special properties, namely for these application in aircraft, automotive, defence and aerospace industries as well others advanced industries. Drilling is a frequently practised machining process in modern industry owing to the need for component assembly in composite structures. This book aims to provide the research and review studies in drilling of composite materials. The first three chapters provide information on delamination and damage reduction in drilling of composite materials. The following two chapters deal with influence of machining parameters on the delamination. The ...
