Los Tribunales de Ética Médica (TEM) fueron creados mediante la Ley 23 de 1981 y cumplen una función crucial en el orden jurídico colombiano. Son los encargados de juzgar las faltas ético-disciplinarias de los profesionales de la salud y, de esa forma, asegurar estándares éticos para el desarrollo de la medicina. Sin embargo, la importancia de su labor contrasta con el lugar invisible que ocupan en la discusión pública. No hacen parte de ningún debate jurídico, no se han realizado estudios sobre su labor y sus decisiones no son objeto de atención ciudadana.
