Sua trajetória e realizações são contadas em tom coloquial, como se o autor estivesse conversando com amigos. Descreve fatos e cenários que circundaram sua formação e atuação profissional. Como o próprio autor antecipa no capítulo de abertura, ressalta as realizações, as amizades, as facetas nobres de nossa, por vezes e por vezes muitas vezes, predadora espécie humana. Professor Fuchs brincou muito, por vezes com ele mesmo, outras vezes com amigos, contando muitas histórias. Disso resultou um texto leve, muitas vezes divertido, que mostra mais do que sua trajetória acadêmica, permitindo vivenciar os ambientes onde médicos e professores de escolas médicas cuidam de doentes enquanto formam novos médicos.

Developments in Tryptophan and Serotonin Metabolism
This volume contains the proceedings of the Tenth International Meeting of the International Study Group for Tryptophan Research (ISTR V), held at the University of Padova, Padova, Italy, from 25-29 June, 2002 under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) in Roma, the University of Padova, the Italian Chemical Society - Division of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, the Veneto Region and the City of Padova. The meeting was organized to cover the recent developments in the field of tryptophan research. Weare very honoured that so many speakers accepted our invitation to give plenary lectures which, with the other communications, demonstrated the high scientific value of the Meeting. The publications in this volume are subdivided into nine main chapters, and cover all the major aspects in immunology, neurobiology, psychiatry, pathology, clinics, metabolism, enzymology, pharmacology, toxicology, melatonin, exercise and analytical chemistry. The volume includes the contributions of 325 scientists from 24 countries, and the Musajo Memorial Lecture delivered by Prof. Osamu Hayaishi during the Opening Ceremony.

Moreover, the report offers a country-by-country snapshot of hypertension burden and control. The report not only serves as an eye-opener but also shows the way forward for countries to protect their people, highlighting the tremendous strides made in managing the disease, and drawing insights from the implementation of the WHO HEARTS package. Additionally, it equips countries with essential tools to enhance hypertension prevention, control and surveillance, thereby offering a roadmap towards a healthier future.

The Mechanical Properties of Sea Ice
The review discusses the state of thinking of each of the main national groups investigating sea ice and gives an overall appraisal of the field as a whole. Emphasis is placed on (1) the physical basis for interpreting sea ice strength (phase relations, air volume, and structural considerations), (2) theoretical considerations (strength models, air bubbles and salt reinforcement, and interrelations between growth conditions and strength), (3) experimental results (tensile, flexural, shear, and compressive strength, elastic modulus, shear modulus and Poisson's ratio, time dependent effects, and creep), and (4) plate characteristics. The paper includes a review of problems in sea ice investigations, relates the chemical, crystallographic, mechanical, and physical aspects involved, and concludes by showing how to utilize this knowledge to solve practical problems.
