The State of Florida has been enmeshed in protracted rounds of counts and recounts of votes for electors for president and vice president of the United States, and the Supreme Court of Florida has used its equitable power to extend the deadline for certifying elections returns from November 14 to November 26, 2000. The specific charge of the Select Joint Committee on the Manner of Appointment of Presidential Electors is: to review all relevant federal and state law and the manner in which that law was applied at the state and local levels in the Presidential 2000 election. The select joint committee shall also review the responsibilities and options of the Florida Legislature with respect to final determination of the appointment of Florida's Presidential Electors.
