Words of the Fathers offers a systematic arrangement of the themes that run through the Office of Readings. These are writings and wise instructions of Church Fathers and Saints; products of years of spiritual maturity and invaluable ecclesiastic teachings and exhortations. Rich as these readings are however, there is a lack of a reference or guide into their various themes in order to make for a more fruitful harvest of the several gems that they contain. Though they are organized into days and seasons in order to be used for prayers and meditations, the reader or user of the Office of Readings has no ready guide into a thematic organization of these deep reflections beyond the daily prayers. Words of the Fathers makes up for this lack, providing a thematic reference-tool for using these readings and amplifying them into a single thread of diverse themes. A useful reference work for personal mediation, talks, retreats, catechetical instructions etc.

I am glad to see a new work from Fr. Emmanuel Olusola on the importance of dialogue. In a world with advanced technologies for communication, coupled with increasing polarization, it is a task of both the Church and of society to create dynamics for dialogue in order to address differences in peaceful ways and to foster spaces for meaningful encounters to find a path forward amidst challenging situations. As this book argues, such spaces begin with each individual through intra-personal dialogue. Most Rev. Donald Bolen Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada Member, Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, Vatican City, Italy Dr. Olusola’s book...

Travellers, Gypsies, Roma

This volume hopes to act as a catalyst for some new and exciting areas of enquiry in the more “liminal” interstices of Irish Studies, Traveller Studies, Romani Studies and Diaspora and Migration Studies. These disciplines are all relatively new areas of enquiry in modern Ireland, a country whose society has witnessed very rapid and wide-ranging cultural and demographic change within the short space of a decade. The issue of multiculturalism is not one which is particularly new to Irish society as a number of contributors to this volume point out. What is new however is an increased acknowledgement of diversity and multiculturalism in Ireland and Europe as a whole. Such an acknowledgement...

Nigerian Art Music

ART MUSIC IN NIGERIA is the most comprehensive book on the works of modem Nigerian composers who have been influenced by European classical music. Relying on over 500 scores, archival materials and interviews with many Nigerian composers, the author traces the historical developments of this new idiom in Nigeria and provides a critical and detailed analysis of certain works. Written in a refreshing and lucid style and amply illustrated with music examples, the book represents a milestone in musicological research in Nigeria. Although written essentially for students and scholars of African music, this interesting book will also be enjoyed by the général reader.
