This exciting new resource presents a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of diffraction of two-dimensional canonical structures, including wedge, strip, and triangular cylinder with different boundary conditions. Maxwell equations are discussed, along with wave equation and scattered, diffracted and fringe fields. Geometric optics, as well as the geometric theory of diffraction are explained. With MATLAB scripts included for several well-known electromagnetic diffraction problems, this book discusses diffraction fundamentals of two-dimensional structures with different boundary conditions and analytical numerical methods that are used to show diffraction. The book introduces fund...

Pulses with sub-nanoseconds / nanoseconds rise time are used in high power radar, sterilization, testing the effect on electronic systems, food irradiation, electromagnetic welding, forming, wastewater processing, defence, medical electronics, etc. There are various methods for obtaining the mentioned low rise time pulses. In this book, a Marx generator, peaking capacitor and peaking switch are used to obtain high amplitude low rise time pulse. A radiating antenna is then connected to the output of peaking stage. Such a system is known as the high-power electromagnetic (EM) impulse radiator. Two such EM radiators were mathematically analysed, simulated, designed, fabricated and the experiments have been conducted in this book.

Electromagnetism for Engineers, VOL. I: Electrostatics is a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental principles of electromagnetism, making it an indispensable source for a wide range of readers. This volume covers the essential concepts of electrostatics, including Coulomb's law, electric fields, Gauss's law, and vector mathematics, which forms a foundational tool throughout the book. What sets this book apart are the numerous illustrations and diagrams that visually elucidate complex topics, ensuring a clear and thorough understanding. To reinforce learning, the text includes problem and solution sets, giving readers an opportunity to apply the concepts they have acquired. This book is particularly valuable for college graduates and engineering students who are beginning their journey into the realm of electromagnetism. It is also an excellent reference for practicing engineers seeking to refresh their knowledge of the basic principles of electromagnetism. With a focus on both theory and practical application, this volume provides a strong foundation for readers at various stages of their engineering education and career.

Ultra-Wideband, Short-Pulse Electromagnetics 10

This book presents contributions of deep technical content and high scientific quality in the areas of electromagnetic theory, scattering, UWB antennas, UWB systems, ground penetrating radar (GPR), UWB communications, pulsed-power generation, time-domain computational electromagnetics, UWB compatibility, target detection and discrimination, propagation through dispersive media, and wavelet and multi-resolution techniques. Ultra-wideband (UWB), short-pulse (SP) electromagnetics are now being used for an increasingly wide variety of applications, including collision avoidance radar, concealed object detection, and communications. Notable progress in UWB and SP technologies has been achieved by investigations of their theoretical bases and improvements in solid-state manufacturing, computers, and digitizers. UWB radar systems are also being used for mine clearing, oil pipeline inspections, archeology, geology, and electronic effects testing. Like previous books in this series, Ultra-Wideband Short-Pulse Electromagnetics 10 serves as an essential reference for scientists and engineers working in these applications areas.

Ultra-Wideband, Short-Pulse Electromagnetics 6

The Sixth Conference on Ultra-Wideband, Short-Pulse Electromagnetics (UWB SP6), chaired by Eric Mokole of the United States Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) and hosted by the NRL and the United States Naval Academy (USNA), was held at the USNA in Annapolis Maryland (USA) from 3-7 June 2002. UWB SP6 was part of the AMEREM 2002 Symposium, chaired by Terence Wieting of the NRL. AMEREM 2002 continued the series of international conferences that were held in: Brooklyn New York at the Polytechnic University in 1992 and 1994; Albuquerque New Mexico in 1996 as part of AMEREM '96; Tel-Aviv Israel in 1998 as part of EUROEM '98; and Edinburgh Scotland in 2000 as part of EUROEM 2000. The next conference ...

Biological and chemical warfare agents, including viruses, bacteria, and explosive and radioactive compounds, can induce illness or death in humans, animals, and plants. Plasmonic nanosensors as detection tools of these agents offer significant advantages, including rapid detection, sensitivity, selectivity, and portability. This book explores novel and updated research on different types of plasmonic nanosensors for analysis of biological and chemical threat agents. It covers a brief theory of plasmonic nanosensors, summarizes the state-of-art in the molecular recognition of biological and chemical threat agents, and describes the application of various types of nanosensors in the detection...

Nuclear Weapons and International Law

  • Categories: Law

This two-volume book provides a comprehensive analysis of the lawfulness of the use of nuclear weapons, based on existing international law, established facts as to nuclear weapons and their effects, and nuclear weapons policies and plans of the United States. Based on detailed analysis of the facts and law, Professor Moxley shows that the United States’ arguments that uses of nuclear weapons, including low-yield nuclear weapons, could be lawful do not withstand analysis. Moxley opens by examining established rules of international law governing the use of nuclear weapons, first analyzing this body of law based on the United States’ own statements of the matter and then extending the ana...
