Mit der vorliegenden Publikation ist ein weiterer Abschnitt des umfangreichen Melodiariums verwirklicht, das dem weihnachtlichen Sammelwerk Wilhelm Paillers der Jahre 1881 und 1883 gewidmet ist. Dieser zweite Teil hat in Wort und Weise die "Hirtenlieder" zum Inhalt, die in W. Paillers Textsammlung mit den Nummern 150 bis 270 dokumentiert vorliegen. Zu 89 Nummern dieser Hirtenlieder konnten entsprechende Melodien gefunden werden, die aufgrund der Quellenlage in Oberosterreich und mit Erganzungen durch verfugbare Drucke und Handschriften aus den verschiedensten Archiven und Bibliotheken des Landes zu einer Melodienwelt mit 210 Varianten erganzt wurden.
