The German 10th Infantry Division
The German 10th Infantry Division, stationed in the area of the Poznań 5th Army Corps, was quite a unique formation. The author presents the origin and fighting traditions of the Division's specific regiments in 1866–1871, the organisational structure, the uniforms, the soldiers' equipment and weapons. However, the narration mainly focuses on the history of the 10th Infantry Division in August 1914 – the departure to the concentration area and the fighting in the first month of the war. Bartosz Kruszyński also provides the perspective of the opponent, the French (Paris) 7th Infantry Division. Of great value is the fact that the military operations have been presented from the perspectives of German and French soldiers. The text is supplemented by maps and unique iconography.

Grundbesitz und Militärdienst
Neben dem Drang, sich unter den Augen des Königs auszuzeichnen, Ruhm und Ehre zu erwerben, waren es vor allem wirtschaftliche Gründe, die die pommerschen Edelleute im 18. Jahrhundert dazu bewogen, in den preußischen Militärdienst einzutreten. Dabei lag ihr Engagement deutlich über dem der Adligen aus anderen Landesteilen der Monarchie. Die etwa 1.600 Kurzbiografien im ersten Teilband zeichnen die militärische Laufbahn nach und geben Einblicke in die sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Verhältnisse der Offiziersfamilien. Die im zweiten Teilband enthaltene Auflistung der Güter zeigt, dass es nur noch wenige Besitzungen gab, die über Generationen hinweg bei einer Familie blieben.

When Frederick II (later known as Frederick the Great) came to the throne in 1740, he had three advantages for which he owed thanks to his father: a modern, well-organised state; full coffers; and a properly trained and equipped army. Under a leader as renowned as Seydlitz, the Prussian cavalry achieved the nearest to a state of perfection that it was ever going to. So great was its reputation in the Seven Years' War that Napoleon made a special point of warning his men at the beginning of the 1806 campaign to beware of the Prussian cavalry.
