This book provides a complete overview on the latest available technologies in dermatology, while discussing future trends of this ever-growing field. This handy guide provides clinicians and researchers with a clear understanding of the advantages and challenges of laser and imaging technologies in skin medicine today. It also includes a section on imaging techniques for the evaluation of skin tumors, with chapters devoted to dermoscopy, in vivo and ex vivo reflectance confocal microscopy, high frequency ultrasound, optical coherence tomography, and a closing part on latest approaches to wound management. Completed by over 200 clinical images, Current Technology in Practical Dermatology: Non-Invasive Imaging, Lasers and Ulcer Management is both a valuable tool for the inpatient dermatologist and for physicians, residents, and medical students in the field.
The Leaf Plan. Towards the Ecological Transition presents innovative methodologies and practices to guide and support a sustainable urban development to cope with climate, social, economic changes. The book will illustrate comprehensive design approaches to address climate change, urban metabolism, temporary uses, landscape multifunctionality, cohabitation through new modes of urban design based on criteria of flexibility and adaptability. Trento is the experimental territory where the innovative process, methodologies and theoretical reflection have been tested above the framework of the three-year research project “TUT Trento Urban Transformation”. The book is structured around the fiv...
This book is an attempt to accumulate the researches on diverse inter disciplinary field of engineering and management using Fuzzy Inference System (FIS). The book is organized in seven sections with twenty two chapters, covering a wide range of applications. Section I, caters theoretical aspects of FIS in chapter one. Section II, dealing with FIS applications to management related problems and consisting three chapters. Section III, accumulates six chapters to commemorate FIS application to mechanical and industrial engineering problems. Section IV, elaborates FIS application to image processing and cognition problems encompassing four chapters. Section V, describes FIS application to various power system engineering problem in three chapters. Section VI highlights the FIS application to system modeling and control problems and constitutes three chapters. Section VII accommodates two chapters and presents FIS application to civil engineering problem.
From the 1950s, Lucius Burckhardt (1925–2003) focused on planning, design, and construction in a democracy. His astute observations and critical analysis have had a fundamental effect on the design of our environment, on teaching in the architectural/planning professions, and on our understanding of what "city" means. His research, which – between mighty commercial interests and conflicting political aspirations focuses on the benefit for the entire population – is indispensable when and wherever buildings are planned, designed, built, and inhabited. With a new selection of texts, this book ploughs a furrow through Lucius Burckhardt’s theory of planning.
A dark, gripping coming-of-age tale that explores violence, friendship, family, and what it means to be a man Summer, Palermo, early 1980s. The air hangs hot and heavy. The Mafia-ruled city is a powder keg ready to ignite. In a boxing gym, a fatherless nine-year-old boy climbs into the ring to face his first opponent. So begins On Earth as It Is in Heaven, a sweeping multigenerational saga that reaches back to the collapse of the Italian front in North Africa and forward to young Davidù's quest to become Italy's national boxing champion, a feat that has eluded the other men of his family. But Davide Enia, whose layered, lyrical, nonchronological novel caused a sensation when it was publishe...
On a cold afternoon in February 1991, a frightening new drug hit the streets of New York City, a synthetic narcotic marketed in packets labeled “Tango & Cash.” As police scrambled to warn heroin users of the danger, the overdose victims began piling up in hospital emergency rooms and county morgues across three states. As a Drug Enforcement Administration agent said at the time, “We don’t know yet who’s putting this stuff out there, but whoever he is, he’s an ice-cold son of a bitch.” Fentanyl had come to America. In 2024, fentanyl is killing nearly 200 Americans every day, and not just heroin users, a seemingly unstoppable narcotic curse like none ever seen before. But few kno...
