Safe No Longer

One child dead. Another missing. The village has seen this before. On a warm evening in late summer, best friends Raymond and Cara camp out overnight in the garden. By morning, Raymond is dead and Cara is missing. DI Rita Cannan is called home to the sleepy seaside town of Green-on-the-Sea to investigate Raymond's murder and try to find Cara--alive. But the case carries eerie echoes of another girl's death that rocked the close-knit community, decades ago. If there's a connection, if history is repeating itself, who knows more than they're letting on? And how far will they go to cover their tracks? There are only so many lies a small town can hold and when everyone is a suspect, Cannan has nowhere to turn. To discover the truth, she must confront her own past. But can she do so in time to uncover the identity of the murderer and find Cara--before more innocent lives are lost?

Knowledge Communities in Teacher Education

This book traces the origins and activities of the longest-standing collaborative teacher group in education, the Portfolio Group. Each chapter documents, historically and conceptually, the main intellectual moments in the evolution of the idea of knowledge communities. Authors illuminate the expansive work, research, and the leading/learning influence that the Portfolio Group has had in the local education community as well as on the international education landscape. In doing so, they illustrate the journey of a school-based, cross-institutional knowledge community and provide the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel for so many novice and newly formed groups seeking sustainability. The book demonstrates through the shared experiences of five teachers/teacher educators the ways in which varied collaborations aimed at professional development lead to teacher growth in practice, leadership, and career.

It's been ten years since the disappearance of Alice, and her mother Eve can't process the new information that she may have been murdered by a serial killer. She finds solace in writing Alice love letters, believing that this will bring her daughter home, but years of denial, pa...

The Human Side of Dyslexia

This text is an inside look at dyslexia - the challenges, emotions and rewards - from childhood through to the college experience. It contains 142 interviews with parents, siblings and college students. It aims to help parents see how to tap the wonderful strengths of their children. It offers pragmatic steps for problem solving at each section's end. It also has a discussion of how siblings feel. While the title implies a book on dyslexia, its messages also work for parents of children with any kind of learning disability.
