"WW2 War Diaries This book provides an interesting insight into the day to day life of a NZ soldier serving in World War II. From time spent training in Australia as a member of the NZ Special Forces Unit, to The North African Campaign and then The Italian Campaign. His time in Italy was interrupted with a stint in the UK on an Officer Training Course. Typing up this book took me on an interesting journey of discovery, both of things about my dad which I never knew, as well as gaining a much better understanding of a part of WWII - seeing the good, the bad and the ugly. I am so privileged and blessed to have been born into my family in this beautiful country of Aotearoa - New Zealand. We were important to dad, and he was always there for us, but now, there are so many things I wished I could have asked him. I wish I had been more inquisitive about people as I was growing up. My encouragement to you is to learn about your parents and grandparents direct from them. They have a wealth of experience and wisdom which I am sure they would love the opportunity to share"--Back cover.

Re: Joyce offers readers of James Joyce a significant collection of new essays from an international array of prominent and emerging Joyce scholars from around the world. Combining a wide range of theoretical approaches, this collection intervenes with current debates about Joyce's work and the place of Joyce in the academy, while addressing all principal areas of Joycean scholarship. In addition to this, the volume raises issues relevant to the study of Joyce in the context of modernism. Grouped thematically, the essays which comprise Re: Joyce offer all students of Joyce an exciting range of in-depth encounters with the pre-eminent writer of the twentieth century.

Joyce/Lowry

While James Joyce was a central figure of high modernism, Malcom Lowry spoke for the next generation of modernist writers and, despite his denials, was almost certainly influenced by Joyce. Wherever the truth lies, there are correspondences and differences to be explored between Joyce and Lowry that are far more interesting than the question of direct influence. Despite numerous differences, their works have much in common: verbal richness, experimentation with narrative structure and perspective, a fascination with cultural and historical forces as well as with the process of artistic creation, and the inclusion of artist figures who are in varying degrees ironic self-portrayals. The contri...

“My Rebellious and Imperfect Eye”: Observing Geoffrey Grigson acknowledges and celebrates Geoffrey Grigson (1905-1985) as an all-round man, as a distinctive lyrical poet, as the exact observer of nature and of men, in the past and in the present, as a pioneering literary critic and art critic, as an unrivalled anthologist, as a ground-breaking editor, as a broadcaster, as a botanist - the list could be extended. In an unsurpassed number of diverse areas of artistic and natural culture, Grigson passionately communicated all he experienced and felt to as wide an audience as possible. Therefore, as the centenary of his birth comes in view, it seems singularly appropriate to celebrate Geoffr...
