The seedy and beguiling Gerald Hamilton was the man who Isherwood modelled Mr. Norris on in Mr. Norris Changes Trains.
Includes the voluminous correspondence file of writer Gerald Hamilton, prototype for “Mr. Norris” in Christopher Isherwood’s Mr. Norris Changes Trains. Thirty of Hamilton’s diaries (1940-1970; mostly in French), together with the manuscript for his autobiographical Mr. Norris and I, are present. (HRHRC Guide, p. 56) Gerald Hamilton was an English memoirist and critic. He was well known for his friendships with Winston Churchill, Aleister Crowley, Robin Maugham, and Christopher Isherwood. This collection contains manuscripts, correspondence, and miscellaneous items such as notes and financial records.
