Balancing Student Mobility Rights and National Higher Education Autonomy in the European Union
Traditionally viewed as a positive phenomenon, student mobility has recently come under critical scrutiny as a result of the financial crisis pushing European solidarity to its breaking point, and the fear of excessive EU incursion into the autonomy of Member States with respect to their higher education systems. In Balancing Student Mobility Rights and National Higher Education Autonomy in the European Union, Alexander Hoogenboom contributes to the ongoing and evolving debate from a legal perspective. The book offers recommendations with a view to reconcile the mobility rights of Union citizens for study purposes and the need to respect Member State autonomy in the organisation of their higher education systems. The argument made suggests rethinking established principles in EU free movement law while encouraging greater EU involvement in student funding opportunities.
Going Europe Or Going Dutch

Nordic Cooperation with Russia in Education and Research
This study maps current and planned education and research cooperation that the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) have with Russia. The study includes bilateral, Nordic, regional, intergovernmental and EU levels, but focuses on the bilateral, national level. The study covers all the fields of research and all the educational levels: primary and upper-secondary schools, vocational, higher and adult education. This study is of use on both a national and international level. It serves both readers who wish to obtain an overview of cooperation in bilateral education and research between the Nordic countries and Russia, as well as readers interested in becoming acquainted with the various forms in which Nordic countries cooperate in the fields of education and research with Russia as a whole. This study, commissioned by the Nordic Council of Ministers, has been carried out by the Aleksanteri Institute, which is the Finnish Centre for Russian and Eastern European Studies at the University of Helsinki.

Between Saint James and Erasmus: Studies in Late-Medieval Religious Life – Devotion and Pilgrimage in the Netherlands
This volume is divided into four sections: late medieval devotion in the Netherlands; medieval Christian pilgrimage; the medieval cult of St. James the Great and Erasmiana. Variety and coherence sound the keynote in the title and the contents of the book. Religious concepts and expressions of religious faith such as pilgrimages and indulgences are representative of late-medieval Christianity. In this book they refer specifically to the medieval cult of St. James the Great, while for Erasmus they were an object of his critical consideration. The whole book can be read in the light of the debate about the tension between an appreciation for outward signs of faith, and the inward experience of religious belief, which Erasmus considered an absolute necessity.
