Damage Assessment of Structures VI

Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS). The study of damage evolution, location and characterisation is an important aspect of the growing area of SHM and is a major theme of the conference. The link between SHM and machine condition-monitoring is emphasised by the substantial contribution, to the proceedings, which concerns the application of damage assessment techniques to rotating machines. In order to analyse efficiently the data–rich information, provided by monitoring and NDE techniques, it is necessary to use advanced signal processing procedures. A significant proportion of the conference is therefore dedicated to signal processing and computational methods.

System identification is a powerful tool in engineering. Its various methods in the frequency and in the time domain have been extensively discussed in earlier CISM courses. The aim of this course is to describe the state of the art in specific application areas, such as estimation of eigenquantities (in the aerospace industry, in civil engineering, in naval engineering etc.), noise source detection, fault detection by investigation of dynamic properties, such as machine sound characteristics, and the identification of the dynamic behaviour of flow induced systems (e.g. aerolastic problems). Geotechnical applications are also among the fields of interest. The lecture notes contain demonstrations of several methods and include a valuation by combining various kinds of experience. Such complex information includes not only theoretical aspects of identification but also advice on practical handling, for example concerning testing effort and data handling.

Comprising 102 papers presented by researchers from all over the world, the proceedings of this workshop contain current information about a variety of structural health monitoring technologies, as well as their current and potential applications in various fields. Emphasis is placed on those technologies that are promising for future applications in industry and government and the infrastructures that are needed to support such technological development. The content of the workshop is divided into keynote presentations (ten altogether), aerospace applications, general applications, civil applications, integration and systems, sensors, and signal processing and diagnostic methods. Includes the editor's summary report on the results of the panel discussions and presentations from the First International Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring held at Stanford U. in September 1997. Electro-rheological Fluids, Magneto-rheological Suspensions And Associated Technology - Proceedings Of The 5th International Conference

The theme of the above conference was the SYNERGY generated by the interaction of the different disciplines relevant to ERF and MRS investigations. To stimulate this theme, all lecture sessions included a mixture of papers — one session contained applications, methodology, particle dynamics, structure characteristics and whatever is germane to the objective of furthering the standing of the subject. ‘Lead-in’ lectures were given by experts who had not recently been able to explain their work to colleagues in their own discipline. They were also charged with justifying the relevance of their area of work to the ESF/MRS field as a whole.

Modern Practice in Stress and Vibration Analysis documents the proceedings of the conference on Modern Practice in Stress and Vibration Analysis organized by the Stress Analysis Group of the Institute of Physics at the University of Liverpool, 3-5 April 1989. The Group has been known in the UK for its contribution in providing meetings with an emphasis on application, covering topics which range widely to include modern numerical techniques and advanced experimentation. The volume contains 34 papers presented by researchers at the conference covering a wide range of topics such as the application of the sensitivity analysis method to structural dynamics; passive and active vibration control for use in vibration suppression in spacecraft; analysis of an ultrasonically excited thick cylinder; and the prediction of vibrational power transmission through a system of jointed beams carrying longitudinal and flexural waves. It is hoped that the contributions published in this book will be of value to the broad community of practitioners in stress and vibration analysis whom the Stress Analysis Group exists to serve.

Advanced Nonlinear Strategies for Vibration Mitigation and System Identification

The papers in this volume address advanced nonlinear topics in the general areas of vibration mitigation and system identification, such as, methods of analysis of strongly nonlinear dyanmical systems; techniques and methodologies for interpreting complex, multi-frequency transitions in damped nonlinear responses; new approaches for passive vibration mitigation based on nonlinear targeted energy transfer (TET) and the associated concept of nonlinear energy sink (NES); and an overview and assessment of current nonlinear system identification techniques.
