POCT ("Point of care testing") - Patientennahe Labordiagnostik. Dabei handelt es sich um Laboruntersuchungen, die nicht in einem Zentrallabor, sondern direkt am Patienten, z.B. im Operationssaal, in einer Ambulanz oder am Notfallort durchgeführt werden. Die Untersuchungen erfolgen mittels einfacher Messsysteme und liefern ein schnelles Ergebnis. Besondere Bedeutung hat POCT in der Anästhesie, Intensivmedizin und Notfallmedizin, da hier die rasche Verfügbarkeit von Messergebnissen und damit die schnelle adäquate und zielgerichtete Behandlung des Patienten besonders wichtig ist.
