A magyar állam titkainak büntetőjogi védelméről hazánkban a mai napig nem született önálló monográfia. Az „állam titkai” fogalom sem a büntetőjogban, sem más jogágakban nem létezik: használatos volt a múlt század első feléig a katonai és a diplomáciai titok, majd 2010-ig az államtitok és a szolgálati titok kategóriája. A 2009. évi CLV. törvény hatályba lépése után egységesen a minősített adat fogalmát találjuk meg a hatályos magyar büntetőjogban is. Ez a könyv viszont nem kizárólag a minősített adatokat tekinti a magyar állam titkainak, hanem tágabb értelemben e körbe sorolja a kémkedés egyik minősített esetét, de az igazságszolgáltatással összefüggő titoksértést, a gazdasági titok és az üzleti titok megsértését is.
