Sixth World Congress on Seafood Safety, Quality and Trade

Fish and fish products are among the most traded food commodities: close to 40 percent by volume ends up in international markets. Yet around three-quarters of fish exports finish up in just three markets: the European Union, Japan and the United States of America. China is an increasingly important player both as an exporter and an importer. Consumers expect that the fish they have access to will be safe and of acceptable quality, regardless of where they are produced or ultimately consumed. This has given rise to issues regarding fish quality and safety, international trade, risk analysis and harmonization of standards. These and other issues are addressed in this document. Muzzling a Movement

In Muzzling the Movement, lawyer Dara Lovitz presents an in-depth and tightly argued analysis of the case of the SHAC-7. She reveals the history behind the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, examines the tendentious and speculative government case against the SHAC activists, and in so doing shows how the U.S. government has deeply compromised the freedom of speech and protest enshrined in the Constitution. The ability to protest peacefully and to voice unpopular opinions without being arrested and imprisoned arbitrarily are cornerstones of the U.S. Constitution, and are the reasons why, in spite of the many limitations imposed upon sectors of its society over the centuries, the dominant order ...

Global aquaculture production has grown rapidly over the last 50 years. It is generally accepted that there is limited potential to increase traditional fisheries since most fish stocks are well or fully exploited. Consequently increased aquaculture production is required in order to maintain global per capita fish consumption at the present level. Fish farming enables greater control of product quality and safety, and presents the possibility of tailoring products according to consumer demands. This important collection reviews safety and quality issues in farmed fish and presents methods to improve product characteristics. The first part of the book focuses on chemical contaminants, chemica...
