Operator Theory in Inner Product Spaces

This volume contains contributions written by participants of the 4th Workshop on Operator Theory in Krein Spaces and Applications, held at the TU Berlin, Germany, December 17 to 19, 2004. The workshop covered topics from spectral, perturbation, and extension theory of linear operators and relations in inner product spaces.

Multilinear Operator Integrals

This book provides a comprehensive treatment of multilinear operator integral techniques. The exposition is structured to be suitable for a course on methods and applications of multilinear operator integrals and also as a research aid. The ideas and contributions to the field are surveyed and up-to-date results and methods are presented. Most practical constructions of multiple operator integrals are included along with fundamental technical results and major applications to smoothness properties of operator functions (Lipschitz and Hölder continuity, differentiability), approximation of operator functions, spectral shift functions, spectral flow in the setting of noncommutative geometry, quantum differentiability, and differentiability of noncommutative L^p-norms. Main ideas are demonstrated in simpler cases, while more involved, technical proofs are outlined and supplemented with references. Selected open problems in the field are also presented.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the QMath 7 Conference on Mathematical Results in Quantum Mechanics held in Prague, Czech Republic in June, 1998. The volume addresses mathematicians and physicists interested in contemporary quantum physics and associated mathematical questions, presenting new results on Schrödinger and Pauli operators with regular, fractal or random potentials, scattering theory, adiabatic analysis, and interesting new physical systems such as photonic crystals, quantum dots and wires.

Recent Advances in Operator Theory in Hilbert and Krein Spaces

The present book is a memorial volume devoted to Peter Jonas. It displays recent advances in modern operator theory in Hilbert and Krein spaces and contains a collection of original research papers written by many well-known specialists in this field. The papers contain new results for problems close to the area of research of Peter Jonas: Spectral and perturbation problems for operators in inner product spaces, generalized Nevanlinna functions and definitizable functions, scattering theory, extension theory for symmetric operators, fixed points, hyperbolic matrix polynomials, moment problems, indefinite spectral and Sturm-Liouville problems, and invariant subspace problems. This book is written for researchers and postgraduates interested in functional analysis and differential operators.

The annual Operator Theory conferences, organized by the Department of Mathematics of INC REST and the University of Timi?oara, are intended to promote cooperation and exchange of information between specialists in all areas of operator theory. This volume consists of papers contributed by the participants of the 1984 Conference. They reflect a great variety of topics, dealt with by the modern operator theory, including very recent advances in the invariant subspace problem, subalgebras of operator algebras, hyponormal, Hankel and other special classes of operators, spectral decompositions, aspects of dilation theory and so on. The research contracts of the Department of Mathematics of INCRE...
