Antibiotic resistance development is a natural process of adaption leading to a limited lifespan of antibiotics. Unnecessary and inappropriate use of antibiotics favours the emergence and spread of resistant bacteria. A crisis has been building up over decades, so that today common and life-threatening infections are becoming difficult or even impossible to treat. It is time to take much stronger action worldwide to avert an ever increasing health and economic burden. A new WHO publication "The evolving threat of antimicrobial resistance--Options for action" describes examples of policy activities that have addressed AMR in different parts of the world. The aim is to raise awareness and to stimulate further coordinated efforts.
Molecular landscape for food safety analysis is rapidly revolutionizing because of high resolution and value added resulting analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) approaches. These modern sequencing technologies drive worldwide advancements in food safety and quality. Sequencing Technologies in Microbial Food Safety and Quality reviews several practices in that NGS contributes to foodborne pathogens functional characterization, management and control. This book focuses on potential uses of sequencing technologies in microbial food safety and quality and highlights present challenges in the food industry. Key Features: Application of whole genome sequencing technologies in disease diag...
This book comprises selected proceedings of the International Conference on Engineering Materials, Metallurgy and Manufacturing (ICEMMM 2018). It discusses innovative manufacturing processes, such as rapid prototyping, nontraditional machining, advanced computer numerical control (CNC) machining, and advanced metal forming. The book particularly focuses on finite element simulation and optimization, which aid in reducing experimental costs and time. This book is a valuable resource for students, researchers, and professionals alike.
