John Henry Brock was tried by the State of Texas in 1912 for murder in the death of his mistress one morning when the two of them were walking to breakfast in "Guy Town," the bawdy district of Austin, Texas. The episode was a tragedy for the two of them and their families. However, it was not the sole instance of trial and judgment during Brock's existence. This book first presents the record of the State of Texas trial, and then it explores Brock's life before and after that trial.

Heinrich Brack or Brock was born 10 August 1849 in Elfingen, Aargau, Switzerland. His parents were Johannes Brack or Brock and Catharina Bibiana Döbeli. He married Hannah Grannemann (1853-1938), daughter of John A. Grannemann and Maria Von Behren, in 1873. They had four children, all born in Osage County, Missouri. He died in 1878 in Morrison, Missouri.
