Received Knox's most recent letter, and is glad to hear his daughter Julia has recovered completely from her illness. Relates that all the members of the Society of the Cincinnati in Boston were invited to dine aboard a ship, the Leopard, whose captain is also a Society member; also describes another feast aboard a boat, to which the Governor was invited. Describes a dinner the Cincinnati are throwing the following week. Mentions that little Isaac (likely Isaac Winslow, Jr.) recently returned from the Eastward (likely the Waldo patent lands) and is very happy with the job Captain Thomas Vose is doing as their agent. Comments that the recent appointment of Colonel [Alexander] Hamilton as Secretary of the Treasury pleases everyone in the Boston area and declares that Hamilton is a man of great ambition. Congratulates Knox on his reappointment to his old office. Adds that he may be in New York the following month, and sends his love to Mrs. Knox and their family.

Says he heard from a vessel from the West Indies that on 15 July war had been declared on England, but Jackson does not believe it, though he wishes in god it may be true. Reports that Benjamin Austin, Jr. and Thomas Dawes, Jr. are candidates for Federal Representatives for this district in the Room of Mr. Ames. Expects opposition, but believes we shall be able to counteract them. Says that John Gardner writes under the name of Yankee criticizing the Society of Cincinnati. Anatomy of Terror: From the Death of bin Laden to the Rise of the Islamic State

"Anyone who wants to understand the world we live in now should read this book." —Lawrence Wright To eliminate the scourge of terrorism, we must first know who the enemy actually is, and what his motivations are. In Anatomy of Terror, former FBI special agent and New York Times best-selling author Ali Soufan dissects Osama bin Laden’s brand of jihadi terrorism and its major offshoots, revealing how these organizations were formed, how they operate, their strengths, and—crucially—their weaknesses. This riveting account examines the new Islamic radicalism through the stories of its flag-bearers, including a U.S. Air Force colonel who once served Saddam Hussein, a provincial bookworm who declared himself caliph of all Muslims, and bin Laden’s own beloved son Hamza, a prime candidate to lead the organization his late father founded. Anatomy of Terror lays bare the psychology and inner workings of al-Qaeda, the Islamic State, and their spawn, and shows how the spread of terror can be stopped.
